Back issues on CD or DVD
Posted by waikong on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 2:43 PM
Have FSM ever thought about offering back issues by volume or multi-year volume on CD. You can skip the ads and just put the articles in if thats easier, or have every page as is in digital form.

I for one, am just loaded with too much backissues of stuff. I have 6 years of FSM, I still want my issues in paper, but would love to PAY to buy back volumes on CD for some 'reasonable' fee. Especially if the CD are searchable with index.

Sounds like a money making opportunity here. Would anyone else have an interest.

Without going into too terribly much detail, it is an idea that has been under discussion for some time now and is currently gathering momentum. There's also thought of making PDF's of individual articles available for sale.

Mind you, these are still merely in the discussion stage but I think there's reason to be optimistic.

That would be an outstanding idea. You could either put together a CD of all issues of a particular year, do a best of the year (if all is too much), or even group them together. By this I mean a CD on all aircraft subject, another on all armor subjects, etc. Throw in the reader's gallery for that subject as well.

I'd definitely buy an armor CD, it would be easier than thumbing through all my old issues looking for that one article.
