7.2 Mega Pixel
Posted by ua0124 on Wednesday, March 30, 2005 9:25 PM
If I take a picture using a 7.2 MP camera will this cause a slow upload for those who have dial up? If so any suggestions on what can be done to the picture so that it will not take as long to load?

yes, it will be a big file. You can resize or resample. The file is going to be huge anyway, so the easiest is to resize it using any of the popular photoediting software. Some are even free. resize ti so that its about 640x480, that will get hte size down to a few KB.

You should be able to choose the size of the photo on you camera before you take the picture. I know with my 5 mega pixel camera has that option.

If Photobucket is your photo host, I think it automaticly makes the pics 250kb.

Your camera is so bad-ass you have to reduce the quality so we can view it!!! Technology is amazing......I am curious to know how much your image quality degrades when you downsize it for us....please let me know!

I have a 5.1MP camera with DSL and it still takes around 30 seconds to upload
(If you actually count it, it's pretty long)
that's why my pic posting rate has been bombed

I have an 8MP camera and it is about 6 megabyte sized pics... in TIF or RAW mode they are upwards of 25MB each... I usually have to downsize mine to about 720x320 to make them acceptable on the topics I post in... the image degradation isn't that bad unless you try to re-enlarge the pic, then the grain is evident... at full resolution you can bring it from 5000ish x 3800ish pixels to about 11000 by 8000 plus and still have a decent pic...

I know on my camera the smallest I can go without taking 320x240 or so pics is 3MP which is still kinda big... the only other option is 640x480 but at 16 consecutive pics in 3 secs.. (for sports and airshows and stuff) don't need THAT many of my builds! haha

---edit---

mistake on what I downsize to.. I just looked at one of my pics on a group build and they are 720x605 or so... have had no complaints from dial up customers (I think they come out to about 56k at that size as jpg's)

you can look on this page to find software to reduce the size of your pics:

although your camera probably came with a CD with some type of editing software on it...
