Cool issue indeed, and i liked most of the builds, however, I felt that he could have done WAY better with the cokcpit details on the spit. He had it just green and black, with IMHO an excess wash left over. That was the only negative thing I had with it. A member of ym club did a cockpit (same one 1/72 aires for spitfire) and it was much better (again IMHO). More color and it was neater and popped out at you more and looked more impressive. It might not have been more accurate, but I think it certainly gives the impression of detail better.

Greta issue, BTW. Big Smile [:D]

The Battle of Britain special issue was outstanding, and I'd love to see more like it (the Midway idea was perfect). I have bought all of the special issues, and find them to be much more satisfying than the magazine itself. I love the series of publications devoted to one machine or one specific arena. The Bf-109 and P-40 series of publications were good examples.

Bought mine yesterday (we have to wait a while here in Oz) and I am looking forward to sitting down and reading it cover to cover! Have had a very quick flick through and it looks great. Was surprised to see a simple medical mask being offered as protection against paint fumes however. Look after your lungs and wear a respirator.

Problem solved, go here to subscribe: https://secure.kalmbach.com/advantageweb/ecirc/offer.aspx?promotioncode=IFSM05&siteid=7

Go here to buy BoB: https://secure.kalmbach.com/AdvantageWeb/eCirc/Offer.aspx?PromotionCode=I5242

or simply call Kalmbach's customer service at 800-533-6644 and they'll be glad to help. We are sold in many outlets but I'm fairly certain Michaels is not one of them.

If you receive a copy of the magazine that's been damaged in some way you can contact our Customer Service department and ask for a replacement copy. Try here https://secure.kalmbach.com/advantageweb/ecare/UserRouter.aspx or simply call 800-533-6644 Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Central Time. You could also check with them about your order and the status of the special Battle of Britain issue's delivery.

As for the water damage, if it's as consistent as you say I would address that with your local post office because there's not much we can do about that from our end.

I hear you ghettochild. Today is the 19th and I'm STILL waiting. This is actually getting me pretty annoyed. Kalmbach charged my credit card at least 6 weeks ago! I was in Barnes & Noble last night and they had a stack of them. Add to that the last issue of FSM I received was water damaged - for the third time this year!

Why is it subscribers are treated like second class citizens?

I liked it also. Some nice builds although most of the detail build pics are a little small for these old eyes.

Would have like to see some of the other things from BoB especially some dioramas of the flak crew, home guard, UXB, of even of a RAF field showing the hectic pace trying to keep em flying.

Still, for just aircraft, not bad.

Now, how about one on Sci-fi...
D-Day?

no it is a special issue that you must purchase. I did an advance purchase a couple months ago.

Finescale special issue: Battle of Britain
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, May 1, 2005 5:00 AM
Today I went to my LHS for some paints and noticed that scale auto was on the rack. Hoping that it would be in my mailbox when I got home, I checked the mail to only be suprised by the special issue!! For once I received an issue BEFORE my LHS!!! (BTW still no scale autoDisapprove [V])

I have been reading this thing all night. It is the best layout I have seen in a long time. All of the models are built by the same person, and all of the pics are taken by the same person as well. Each picture is very clear and shows great detail.

I read the little contributing info box, and it seems that this was actually written in Greece, and was translated back to English. The translator is top notch, I didn't even realize that it was a translation. Academy and Trumpeter needs to hire that guy!!

He does a cool little quirp in the beginning showing some basic tools, then they do a history piece of the Battle of Britain. (written by Richard Caruana, not the modeler himself), and then they do 7 plane build-ups in various sizes, and detailing. The man is amazing with 1/72!!

I like the plane profiles littered through out the mag also....for some reason I can never get enough profiles. Seriously this is one of the finest mags I have bought from Kalmbach.

If they keep producing special issues like this, I will continue to buy them for sure. It would be nice to have a special issue like this for armor as well!! I would buy em all!!

Sorry to all the armor guys for being left out, but I am rooting for some special armor mags as well!!! Thanks again for a great mag......perhaps I can go to sleep now.........naw....I gotta check out the spitfire one more time....lolTongue [:P]Big Smile [:D]Wink [;)]
