Suggestion on GB badges
Posted by zokissima on Thursday, July 21, 2005 5:52 AM
I think that it would be a good idea if FSM hosted a limited image hosting gallery to hold all group build badges. They are ridiculously small in size and it would be a fairly easy affair to set up. Just host them all on one page, and users can submit through e-mail or a submission thread.
Reason being, since now all users host their own GB badges, if a particular user goes away, deletes image host accounts, or anything else, then all those others whom were in that GB will have their image not display. This just makes it more universal and stable.

For this very reason I have been grabbing a copy of the group badge and sticking it in my photubucket album with the pictures from that build. This way I don't have to worry about somebody else moving it and I can find it more easily than searching through all the old builds.

I agree that having a central site for them might be nice, but it might also be more work to administer than it's worth. Just my $0.02.

It's something we've been thinking about, amongst a list of other potential improvements to the site.

Thanks for the replies. I've gotten into the habit of just taking the badge and hosting it myself for now.
One other advantage this would bring would be some semblance of control towards the GBs. Since each legitimate GB would now need some kind of approval to upload their badge, maybe it would stop so many pointless GBs that have less than 5 people participating.

Well, I wouldn't call it a pointless GB, but maybe it's stretching the "Group" in Group Build...that seems harsh. But a central clearing house for the badges wouldn't be a bad thing in my humble opinion.

Hey Jeff! What other improvements are being bandied about?
A day in the Corps is like a day on the farm; every meal is a banquet, every paycheck a fortune, every formation a parade... The Marine Corps is a department of the Navy? Yeah...The Men's Department.
