Oooooo! Diecast--that's a touchy subject down the hall with our sister publication Scale Auto. A lot of die-hard plastic auto modelers did not take kindly to SA's acts of friendliness toward diecast. Clearly, some of them perceive diecast as the cause of the plastic auto modeling industry's decline. (Or could be other causes, and diecast has simply filled the vacuum?) Maybe there's an innate conflict between "collecting" and "constructing" hobbies, though a lot of us have collected more unbuilt kits in our closet than we have models on our display shelves. I don't know.....

Still, I'm not opposed per se to adding a Diecast forum to our auto section if there's enough interest. (There have been a few aircraft diecast offerings, but so far it's been mostly cars.) What would we talk about in a diecast forum? I mean, you can't really swap building stories and construction tips.

Hi Lawrence. as you probably know there are die cast construction kits out there, those from revell spring to mind. one topic that could be discussed is restotation, and some of the methods involved will be useful to kitbashers too.....Greg

Greg's got it. There are things to be geleaned from diecasts.. I usually do plastic, but on occasion, when no plastic exists, or ever will, I go diecast. Sometimes I want to detail, change color, etc. You can do anything to diecast you can to plastic, just a diffren medium, and you'll need diffrent materials.

It must have been almost two years ago when we put up a survey on Scale Auto's site which mentioned something about Diecast. Some of the comments on there, well..

Definitely a passionate subject among plastic auto modelers.
