New forum needs feature of sending email when there is a response to your post
Posted by djrost_2000 on Thursday, December 1, 2005 11:36 PM
I'm really disapointed that the new forum does not have the feature of sending email to the poster when there is a response to your post.  Is there any way we can get this feature back?

I think it still does, it's just not obvious. There is a "Notify" above and to the left of the post. It is only viewable when you are NOT in edit mode. Click the button and a check mark appears.

I'm not posting twice, I'm testing the "Notify" function!

edit: you also have to check "Enable Email Notifications of replies to your posts" which is the last option in your profile... /edit

You should be able to just use the Notify function w/o checking the option in your profile.

I clicked notify w/o checking the option in my profile...  so we'll see what happens.

But you're right, that checkbox should display regardless in the post/edit window.

Finally! Somebody else posted here. I couldn't get an email on my posts. I guess the software is clever enough to know that I don't need an email for my own posts.

Notify alone does do it! If you check the email post option in profiles ALL threads you post in will notify you.

Now if we can only get Quick Reply back....Whistling [:-^]

Ha! I also want to see the "Watch this Thread" option returned! I don't always have the chance to post in some Threads, yet I want to follow what's being posted. The "Watch this Thread" option was the best feature of the old Forums in my opinion. The option to "do not allow replies" is pretty ridiculous and unecessary, and most likely is rarely if ever used!

But I'm just a lonely voice wailing in the wilderness.....

"Watch this Thread" = the Notify button at the top of the thread.

That's what we've been talking about.  Smile [:)]

I have no idea if they'll go for it here, but in the next version of Community Server (the forum software) they've got it setup so that you could reply to the notification and your message (email) would get added to the discussion thread.  Some cool stuff.  Cool [8D]
