You can bust a chain, but those darn cables are hard to cut.

I would be remiss if I did not mention from SCTV The Great White North with Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis.
Two incredibly talented men. Dave Thomas did a Bob Hope impersanation that had Bob Hope in stitches and was invited to Bob Hope's home for a command performance! Not to mention Dave's Phil Donohue, I'll bet Marlo would mistake him for Phil.
Rick Moranis? No matter the number of "Honey I. . ."  movies he will ever remain DARK HELMET.
Bob and Doug MacKenzie forever! Eh?
Now Count Floyd. . .I could take or leave.

When I moved to Port Angeles Wa. I could only get the TV station from Victoria BC, I liked On The Buses, which was a British show, but I still liked it. Of course Benny Hill was on and so was John Byner's show BIZZARE!
Then I got married and got cable.

Nah, apparently we are talking about whatever pops into our heads.

Benny Hill made my sides hurt, he should have come with a warning label.

An absolutely hilarious CBC show from days of yore was "Four on the Floor" with the Frantics, Mr. Canoehead was Canadiana at its best! The troupe broke up a few years ago, but I keep hearing rumours that they are getting back together. Rick Green plays Bill on Red Green and also did a wonderful history show called "History Bites". Dan Redikan has a role on "Puppets Who Kill" which is a bizarre, yet funny, show. Peter Wildman and Paul Chato fell off my radar scope.

I thought we were talking about Canadian shows from years past...Red Green is an absolute hoot. My wife (from Jersey) doesn't see the humor in it...

I'd have to rank RG right up there with Benny Hill.

In my never humble opinion, SCTV wasn't any good until John Candy, Eugene Levy and of course Martin Short took over.
Who was the best in Ghost Busters? Not Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd!!
(and my wife hit me for not mentioning BTO, in my musical list. . . She loves those guys.)
Eh? is used alot in my states UP. We once counted them when my sister in law was talking and were laughing too hard to continue at 15.  The best one the yoopers have now is "Holy Waah."
(I too, think Queen is awesome, and my kids think dad may be alright as I drive up from work with the blaring of "Tie your Mother down" Getting me in the mood for yard work!)
As for the topic. . .aren't we sort of contributing to FSM on these forums?

Well you get the points for knowing it was Joni Mitchell. I grew up listening to Gordon Lightfoot, and play an awful lot of his music on my guitar. Great song writer. I still think, to this day, that Randy Bachman wrote and played some of the cleverest hooks, and Burton Cummings was one of the greatest voices in Rock. IMHO the only one that came close was Freddie Mercury of Queen.

I've heard ALL the Rovers stuff "Oh it's forty below and I don't give a..."

SCTV was "beauty, eh" but the funny thing is the original Second City is in Chicago. Red Green is hilarious and can play to the handyman on both sides of the border without any problems in translation. Duct Tape knows no political boundaries.

Not much of a Joanie Mitchell fan, more of a Gordon Lightfoot. . .Or The Guess Who or Byran Adams. . .But my dad insisted on the Pig and Whistle!
The Irish Rovers did more than pop Irish tunes. You should check out some of their rather Non PC stuff.
But how can you discuss Canadian without a mention of SCTV?
Or Red Green??

Reichfox, sorry about the hijack, but you gotta go with the flow!

RomperRoom: was definitely Canadian, and bad, bad, bad!
Beachcombers: I had a ride in Relic's (Robert Clothier) jetboat and shared a cup of tea with Molly (Rae Brown) at Molly's Reach. Good show, I believe it was the longest running series (other than HNIC, which is less a show than an icon of gigantic proportions) on CBC.
Tommy Hunter: I dreaded that show as a kid. It wasn't until it was off the air that I realized what a talent he had and what great performers he had on his show. Don't know whatcha got till it's gone! (since we're on a Canadiana kick, name the song that last line is from!).
Capt. Nemo's Underseas Adventures: is but a faint smudge on my memory.
Audubon Wildlife Theatre: Don't forget the beaver! And the mighty Canada Goose.
Front Page Challenge: I drank a beer once with Pierre Berton. Great guy, funny as all hell, but you couldn't get a word in edgewise!
Irish Rovers: If you thought that show was bad, you should have seen The Pig and Whistle. The Rovers used to play on that show and eventually replaced it. I still shudder.
Rocket Robin Hood: I don't think RRH is Canadian in origin, but worse animation is difficult to comprehend!

All Day long I was trying to remember and finally WHAM!
I yell outloud "CASEY and FINNEGAN!"
Needless to say my 25 year old associate thought the old guy had lost it for good.
HNIC while really cool now brings more memories back of either myself or my brother holding the antenna (with foil) at a certain angle so we could see the game! Lot's of snow when the weather was iffy.

Being born and raised on an Indian Reservation that straddles the US/Canadian border, all we got from the 75ft. TV mast was CBC, CJOH if I remember correctly.

I remember Mr. Dressup and the Friendly Giant...wasn't Romper Room a CBC show too?

Romper Stomper domper doo...

Anyway, here's some others I remember...

The Beachcombers
The Tommy Hunter Show
Capt. Nemo's Underseas Adventures
Audubon Wildlife Theatre (A Canadian version of Wild Kingdom, lots of seals, polar bears, and moose!)
Front Page Challenge
The Irish Rovers (AAAAAAAGGGGHHHH!!!!)
And of course, my personal favorite...

Rocket Robin Hood!!!

Of course, there was Hockey Night in Canada...

Man, there's some memories in this list....

Isn't that interesting? Canadians are forever deploring the encroachment of American TV in Canada, and here we've been leaking across the border ourselves! Big Smile [:D]

I grew up in northern Ohio (Toledo, actually). We got a lot of Canadian TV, including The Friendly Giant and Mr. Dressup. I hadn't thought about either of those shows for decades, but the "Look up! Look waaaay up!" line brought them both back right away!

Lot's of good memories from the folks across the river, and not just HNIC!

Don, I was wondering if anybody was going to connect with that statement! Wink [;)]

Rusty and Jerome were a daily part of my life when I was a kid, along with Mr. Dressup. Dressup was started by Fred Rogers who hired his good friend Ernie Coombs to take over for him when he was asked to start Mr. Roger's Neighborhood.

Lots of good stuff and memories from CBC.

Bgrigg. . .
I gotta ask ya as you are Canadian of about the same age and I, though a citizen of the USA, did watch CBC television alot as a small kid. . .Does the phrase; "Look Up, Waaaay up". . .! Mean the same to you as it does to me?
I only have memories of black and white so I have no idea if he was green or not. . .
This would take to long to explain if you have no idea of that of which I speak.
 Eh?
