Derelict Clubs? IPMS/Pensacola Modeleers
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, May 12, 2006 8:41 AM

Well I just used the Resources section of the website to look for a local club, what I found was an email address that returns my email and a dead web page. No phone number listed so I can't call and verify the clubs existence or non-existence.

IPMS/Pensacola Modeleers

Can FSM take the time to at least verify this information before putting it in the magazine or on the website? That was the only club listed with 100 miles of my zip code too, so I guess I'm in a modeling dry spot for the state...

I have either driven by the local hobby shop, or it's not in exsistence either...???Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]

Mark,

As the current President of the Pensacola Modeleers, I can assure you, while we may be a relatively small club, we are defintitely not a "derelict" club. I visited the "Resources" section (as you did) and was quite surprised by what I found there. All of the information posted on our organization is at least 3 years out of date. The published contact information is for our former club President who passed away in 2003! This is somewhat confusing as I've personally sent updated information on our club to FSM at least twice since then and suspect our Public Affairs contact has done likewise.

In any case, you can find accurate IPMS/USA club information on their website:

http://www.ipmsusa.org/index.htm

Simply click on the "Chapter & RC Directory" button and then track down the information you are interesting in finding.

As for the Pensacola Modeleers, we meet twice each month at John's Models in Cantonment (North Pensacola). At 1:00pm on the 2nd Saturday each month we hold our "normal" meetings where we take care of business, hold quarterly club contests, raffles, show & tell, etc. At 4:00pm on the 4th Saturday each month we have a "model building" meeting where we bring in projects, build, and just general talk models.

You are more than welcome to come by and check us out. You can also drop me an e-mail at any time and I can answer any questions you may have.

[EDIT] I contacted FSM and the old club information in the "Resources" section has been deleted. I've sent updated information which should be posted shortly.

Thanks Robert,
I will have to check and see what the wife has on the agenda tomorrow, but if all goes well I'd like to take a ride out there and check it out. 1:00PM...making a note of it now.

Sorry about referring to the club as "derelict" that was a bad choice of wording on my part, hope no offense was taken concerning it.

Thanks again!
Rob

Rob,

No offense taken and none intended for my indiscretion with your name...oops.

BTW, tomorrow's meeting includes our quarterly club contest with 2 divisions: NASCAR, because of our club project for the IPMS/USA Nationals, and our normal "Open Division", where any model can be entered. While you won't be able to enter the contest unless you choose to join the club (which you can do tomorrow...no problem), you are more than welcome to bring by a model or two for our normal "Show & Tell" segment.

Hope you can make it...

Has this been resolved??

Unless my mind is failing me, this is the first I've heard of this.

With as many clubs that are listed in the database, it's impossible for us to monitor the information. We can update of course, provided we're contacted with the correct information.

Jeff,

Yes, it's resolved. I called Amanda last week, she deleted our old club entry, and I input the corrected information.

I did bring up the problem with allowing members to list a club, but then have no power to modify the information once it's entered. The only resolution I had was to call Amanda (not toll free). A password protected edit function would greatly improve our ability to make changes as they happen.

Thanks for looking in...

Well at least yours was resolved. I have been hunting for a club that is within an hours drive of here without much luck. I can't even find other modelers in the area.
