Thanks Matt.
Bill,  never assume!
Those are some high powered and very talented advisors but I was curious. . .

Hey Matt,  thanks for stopping by and answering that one.  I've noticed you've been coming around more often, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that appreciates it.  Thank you.

It's very easy for any publication to become "detached" from their subject and lose focus.  I'm sure the advisory board prevents this from happening.  Indubitably, it also keeps the staff "in the know."

I know an author who does a weekly computer column. He has a group of friends (stable of advisors, as he calls them) who he sends the column to for a "sanity" check before publishing it. They also advise him on what they think the next trend may be, which he says makes him look like he can forecast the future. I assumed the Advisory Board would do the same.

So long folks!

It didn't sound like everyone knew who they were, Don, that's why I gave a little background.

I guess the best definition would be they're available to offer advice regarding the magazine in a long-term, big-picture sense. Not that I couldn't pick up the phone and ask any of them "I'm thinking about running an article on the Mk. II McGuffin, what do you think?" Or even a simple "What do you think of the work we've been doing?" It's always good to have outside opinions.

As some of the posters have mentioned, they're all top, top, top modelers -- experts in their field. They've all been nice enough to partner with FSM and serve as -- as the name suggests -- advisors when we're planning, ect.

I see somebody wants to be bored!

Here's a biography of Shep Paine:

A bit of his work for Monogram:

I`ll just post the Google search on Cookie Sewell:

I won´t continue, I`m sure you get the idea!

I fully expect to see Matt Swan's name on the advisory board one day.

So long folks!

Maybe they're kind of like the people who have helped out monetarily or in some other way and the advisory board is to honor them that way? I don't really know. Lot's of possibilities. DAVID VOSS may know.

On page 5 of the September 2006 issue, where all the editors, and practically everyone associated with Kalmbach is listed. . .there are 8 guys listed as the Advisory Board.
I just wanted to know what they did other than "advise".
Do those guys get all the unclaimed prizes from the sweepstakes? Do they get free subscriptions?
Are they elected?

Don

Ah! Those advisors! I would imagine they get free subscriptions at the very least. I wouldn't be surprised if each of those gentlemen don't receive every modeling related publication in the world for free. I would suspect they don't require a closetful of unclaimed Aztek airbrushes, and since many of them do kit reviews for FSM and other sites I doubt they have much of a problem collecting kits.

I won't bore you with a listing of their work, but it would be difficult to go to any of the major modeling websites and not find their mark at some level. They've collectively written many articles for FSM, and authored many books as well. They contribute reviews, previews and how-tos on every facet of our hobby. Try Googling their names and see how many different websites they pop up on!

I doubt they are elected, but if they were, I'd vote for them!

So long folks!

Okay,  I finally have to ask,
Just what do those advisors do?
Other than the obvious of course, what do they advise you of?
