That's an editorial touch.

What you read in the magazine is determined entirely by the editors.  As a contributor, belive me, the text that gets submitted is shaped to fit what the editorial staff wants their magazine to read like.  If I (or anybody submitting an article) insisted in my piece that I was the best modeler out there, it would stand no chance of getting into print.  If you read any opinions at all, figure it's from the editors or that the editors agree with the contributor.

It's probably just the editor who puts together that section and is trying to spice up the text a bit instead of just using a generic lable of say "Bf109G-6".

January 2006

page 35

"Francisco's beautiful 1/48 scale La-7 started with the fine Gavia kit. His expert painting and weathering were all that was needed to make an outstanding addition to his collection"

Maybe one of the FSM staff put it in there, but the author section just says "By Francisco Alfaro"

I'm not trying to be negative, but I'm just wondering why they do that? its just questionable because they talk in third person...

Hey jinithith2, why don't you site an example?

I've never seen such a thing and I've never missed an issue.  Maybe I need to read with more focus...

Reminds me of a person that used to display his completed build at a local hobby shop in Victorville California.  He would slap a kit together in one day, leaving gaps, open seams, glue marks. and running paint.  He would offer them for sale at a steep price and claim they were completed by a "Master Model Builder".  Every one used to laugh at the kits he offered for display and sale.

I haven't really picked up on any FSM authors patting themselves on the back, but maybe I'm not reading that carefully.  Perhaps it's all tongue-in-cheek anyway.

Question
Posted by jinithith2 on Saturday, December 23, 2006 7:13 PM

does anybody find it odd that the author of certain articles would crown themselves with like "expert painting skills" or "expert gluing skills"?

I think I read 2 or 3 articles so far in my FSM collection that said something like. "The *blank* kit was turned into a gem by *insert name here*'s expert painting skills" when the author is the same person the above line is describing. so, your just basically boasting. I've seen waaaay better models built/ written/ reviewed by waaaay more humble authors.

I couldn't say that about myself...no matter how good I am

just wondering.
