Abbreviations
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, June 30, 2007 7:01 PM

Webmaster(s). Might I suggest a 'Sticky' on Abbreviations that are often used on these forums? As I'm still new, I certainly could use a reference.

Some I've decoded are; GB = Group Build, OOB = Out of Box, AM = After-market, RM = Revell Monogram.

What is PE?

PE stands for photo-etched.

There's also RoG for Revell of Germany, a distinct company from the US Revell company that merged with Monogram.

Good idea for a sticky! We need some SOP on abbreviations here at FSM before some of the members go AWOL!

So long folks!

That's a great idea!    It took me a long time to figure out what LHS was for. I was too shy to even ask.

"Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P."

I have started a list of abbreviations but haven't posted it as yet.

I would like comments on what you think is the more appropriate forum in which to post it:

Reference Materials alongside the existing lists of Air and Armor terminology threads, or "Community Assistance" as it relates more to the forums themselves than any particular subject matter.

I would also like to pose a question to the Forum Administrators: Would you have any objections to extending such a list to include manufacturers, with hotlinks to their websites and contact pages etc?

Quite often there are posts from FSM members saying they have a missing or broken part in such and such a kit, who do they contact to get a replacement part. If this is permitted, I will add Manufacturers' web site links (not regional distributors or retailers) to the list.

Having a sticky on the Reference Forum is a good idea. We used to have one on Armorama. I am unsure if it is still there.

Ok, I have started a list of general modelling abbreviations in the "Reference Materials" forum. /forums/798803/ShowPost.aspx

Any suggestions and additions are welcome - I have tried to limit the list to modelling related terms, not general "conversational" terms often seen in forums and chat rooms (eg. "LOL")
