Why review a kit if you aren't going as straight out of the box as is possible?

I also don't like "reviewers" that seem to think that its all about tearing a kit up one side and down the other,focusing only on its bad points and ignoring the good.

I saw Revell Germany's 1/72 Fiat G-91 get hit pretty hard in a recent review in another magazine. Its 1/72 for God's sake and a small enough aircraft in real life! what did you expect?

I love FSM reviews, they're fair and even handed all around to both the modeler and manufacturer, the reviewers seem to make certain that they say one or two good things about even a generally mediocre kit and thats important in my book.

Agrred there! I'm often annoyed by articles in other mags, and on the web, about a brand new offering, itself a decent offering, but that's completely taken apart by 'reviewers'... I remember when the Italeri 1/35 Panther cam out. It was a very good offering particularly since one could buy it without having to remortgage the house (sorry Tamiya, but most people who start in this hobby are young people who like to do something that look good fast), and this guy in this mag I won't name completely rebuilt the kit with tons of aftermarket bits, such as new tracks, new gun barrel, etched detail sets, zimmerit plaques,... and ending up with a kit that must have cost twice as much as any Tamiya Panther... (that's without counting the reference books and all!). What was the point of that!?
