Bandai 1/15 panzer IV missing part
Posted by jurgen regelin on Thursday, December 24, 2009 11:48 AM

Help anybody!

Does anyone out there have a center cap for a return roller. I have spent years on this model and somehow lost a cap during a move. Please help.

Thank you,

Jurgen G. Regelin

Hi Jurgen;

If you can't find the part you may want to make one. You'll need some styrene tubing and a bit of sheet. Bandai probably used a softer removable polyethylene material for the caps, in either case, here is an opportunity to try out scratchbuilding. Depending on your finishing objectives, you can always have the piece look fatigued or battle damaged.

I have a smaller scale Bandai Panzer IV, and believe me, it has a lot of battle damage and scratch built parts.

Given the time you've put into the kit, it makes sense to start making your own cap while you wait for good news from afar.

Bockscar,

Thanks for the reply. I did in fact give up on Bandai suppling me with a replacement even after they acknowledged my e-mail request and asked for all the part specifics, tree code ,model bar code, etc.I have already fabricated a replacement from the slotted drive end of a nylon machine screw with the same diameter of the original within approx .002 of the original. As for the scratch building, at least 50% of the model as touched with modifications either inspired by existing web sites such as "Bandai Panzer IV Project" and printed reference materials. The model is built for static display , not RC control, and is in fact still under construction. Sorry for the delay in replying but work and other issues have diverted my attention from my modeling leisure time.

Thanks again,

Jurgen
