Photoetch bender & AC Accelerator
Posted by Colonel Presbitero on Thursday, March 25, 2010 5:12 AM

I was hoping to work on model kits with photoetch this summer. What is the best photoetch bender I should purchase? What brand and where can I buy it? Also, I have a problem purchasing my AC accelerator. The local shops here can't import the item. Can you assist me on where to purchase it here in Manila, Philippines?

I recently bought "The Bug" from the small shop. Well, I didn't actually purchase it from them, I got it from www.spruebrothers.com.

It is really well made and works very well. It is made of all aluminum (I think), which is better than similar products I have used and owned that are made from a plastic or composite. The bug is small, about 5x6 cm, but that is enough for most PE. It fits in your hand so you don't have to keep it on the bench as you are working, which I like. A friend of mine has a larger bender and says it is too big for everything he works with (he builds aircraft 90% of the time).

As far as other places to get it and the accelerator you asked about, I think most online shops will ship overseas, but you should check with them first. I've used www.hlj.com before and they ship pretty quick to  the states, I would imagine they would be pretty quick to Manila as well.

Also, you may get more response if you post this in another forum, like the tools and techniques section.
