Picture problems again
Posted by Don Stauffer on Thursday, August 26, 2010 9:22 AM

I had finally, after various methods, found something that seemed to work to embed images in a post.

I opened a Photobucket account.  Then, when I had an image up on PB, I copied the URL from the address box of my browser.  I then started a message, and clicked on the "film" icon. In the entry box that appeared, I pasted the URL I had copied.  This seemed to work for several months.

I tried a new message with a new image today, using the same technique and I got a LINK to the image, not an embedded message.  What is wrong? (the message is in the "scratchbuilding" forum.

The easiest way to embed from PB is to copy the IMG link, which is the fourth of the four link options it provides to the left of the image. Just paste that into the body of your post, and it'll embed. Like so:

On the Bench: 1/32 Trumpeter P-47 | 1/32 Hasegawa Bf 109G | 1/144 Eduard MiG-21MF x2

On Deck:  1/350 HMS Dreadnought

Don, the IMG tag is the way to go. I copy and pasted the following image directly into the message pane and never use the "Film" icon, unless I'm embedding videos from Youtube.

Well, tried copy and paste of the IMG link (the fourth or bottom URL at PB).

It does the same thing, just pastes the URL, not the image.

I always use the Direct Link from Photobucket for any images I post from my account regardless of forum I'm on. Instead of right clicking on the link to copy, use the key commands.

Place your cursor in the Direct Link code box. Highlight the line of code to be copied, by using Ctrl A to ensure all of the code line is highlighted, followed by Ctrl C to copy it. Then in the filmstrip box use Ctrl V to place it.

When you use the IMG code, you get that goofy looking frame and text around your image about it being resized.

In my browser (Google Chrome), just clicking on any of the link options automatically copies it to the clipboard.

If I copy the direct link and then paste it into the URL field the filmstrip icon brings up, I see the image in the body of the post as I write.

If I copy the IMG link, it pastes into the body as the URL surrounded by URL and /URL in squared brackets, then shows up as an image when I post.

That is really weird.  Are you typing the message here (on FSM) or are you typing it in, say, MS Word and then pasting it in here?

Yes, I always use the CTL-C and CTL-V for cutting and pasting.  And to answer a previous question, I use Mozilla Firefox (latest version).

I am typing it in online.  The only thing I paste in is the URL. I have tried copying the address from the top  (address window) of my browser, and the little box with four versions of URL within the PB window.

You typing it in like this(minus the space):

 [ IMG]url [/IMG]

This is for direct input into the post editor.

Only thing I can think of is that somehow a space or other special character gets inserted in the string).

No, I had been clicking the media icon (the film strip icon) and pasting it into the URL space of the pop-up window.  That had been working for months. I could go back to manually inserting it.  I'll try that next.

Not sure if it's the same as the problem you're having, but I did notice that when you hit "preview topic" before you post it, the images don't seem to display (I always preview posts with images to test the links). Headscratching over that led me to this topic.

In the end, I decided to hells with it and just posted the topic... lo and behold, the images worked fine!
