Has anyone had this product turn chalky white after application as a top flat coat?

Yep - everybody has! That stuff is meant to be added to other paint, to flatten the finish. Maybe the label explains things better in Japanese, but it's not much help in english! Luckily I realized what was going on before it completely cured, I was able to scrub most of it off before it was too late.

You can mix it with future to get a very nice flat coat. I think this explains it very well.

Extracted from article:

1 part flat base to 3 parts Future = very flat
1 part flat base to 10 parts Future = flat
1 part flat base to 15 parts Future = satin

Nope. When it was labeled in English, many years ago, as well as the instrucutions that used to be posted don their website, it called for an initial application then wait X minutes before applying the next coat, exactly the same as the rest of their paints.

There's still hope for gettting rid of the chalky look with enough applications of Future .

Been there, done that, got the tshirt.

As said by others, if you just put flat base on the model it will get chalky.

There are two options:
- add a layer of gloss, it will often soak up the chalky base
- strip all the paint and start all over
