Start with the "use rich formatting" button. Then highlight the text you want to link (it could be the URL, but it could be anything else if you wish), and click on the little chain link icon. [It only shows up if there's something highlighted.] It will then ask you to put in the URL in a little menu box, hit "insert," and you're done.
You can then hit the "preview" tab, if you wish, to make sure everything is the way you want it.

found it under forum feedback and error reporting
Check your user settings. Go to your user info box to the right of the page and click on "Community settings". On the page that opens, click on the "Advanced settings" tab and under "Site Options", make sure that your "Content Editor" drop-down has "Enhanced" selected, not "plain text".
yse the red text was just me goofing
There is no way to change the displayed text, correct? IOW, insert a link and change the text displayed to "here" or "this site" or something)
In the Windoze environment, this is usually called "edit hyperlink" but I see no such option.
