How do I submit photos to the forum?
Posted by Teenage Modeler on Thursday, June 15, 2023 8:51 PM

Hey all, I'm just asking this question because I do not know how to correctly add pictures into the forum. They are often not showing up, or giving an error when clicked.

What program/website do you all use to upload your photos on the internet and pasting  the photo link to the forum? I can only think Photobucket off the top of my head.

Thanks

I use Postimage to host my photos; they offer a free account up to a certain level of storage.  I just get the image links from the pages there and paste them into the body of my posts.  I don't bother with the Insert feature, it's a couple of superfluous and unnecessary clicks.

In whatever hosting site you may choose, you want to look for links that are labeled as "Hotlink for forums" or something similar.  The link should have the necessary syntax for the forum's software to retrieve the picture and show it correctly.

As far as Photobucket goes, I used PB up to about 10 years ago. I had a paid account to get more storage space than just the free account provided.  But around 10 years ago, the people who ran PB at the time got the bright idea of offering a single account with storage, for $499 a year.  Under that plan, they eliminated the graduated system of increasing storage for increasing prices, with image linking.  You could take the lower storage sizes, but they would only link your images if you took the most expensive plan.  That screwed up a lot of customers; a lot of linked images no longer showed up around the Web.  I think they walked that back several years later, but it was too late for us who had been customers before.  "I'll never put on a life jacket again."

I use Fotki. $ 24 a year, but no ads. It's really straightforward to use.

I immediately downloaded all of my images from PB when they first announced the rate policy. Five years later they are still whining about my stuff taking up server space.

Fluck 'em
