Go to the Community Assistance Forum. There you will find a Sticky Post on how to post images on the Forum.

Stuka,

Here's what you need to do:

1. Post your pictures somewhere on the web. Ron George has a web site that is FREE!! to upload your pictures to. Just go to http://rongeorge.com/modules/Gallery/upload , click on Login, use "newfsm" as your login ID, and "models" as the password, and you can upload pictures. Try cruising around the site first, just to get a feel for everything, and to see if it's something that you want to do. Afterwards, upload those pictures!!

2. Go to the FSM website and generate a new posting. Resize this internet browser window and open a new internet browser window right next to it, and go to the website that has your pictures in the new browser window. You should now have two browser windows open, one with FSM in it (along with the new post that you're getting ready to make), and the other with the website holding your pictures.

3. Once you get your pictures posted and can view them from whatever website you've posted them to, put your cursor over the picture and right-click on it. You should see a window appear, and at the bottom of that window, select "Properties". This will cause another window to appear that has a lot of information about the picture. Look at the "Address" information somewhere near the center of the window (it should look something like this: <http://rongeorge.com/albums/upload/Halcpred2down.thumb.jpg>). That's the information that you want to go between the thingies in your FSM posting. All you need to do is highlight that address (put your cursor at the beginning of the address, left-click the mouse and hold down the left button while moving the cursor to the end of the address, which highlights it in blue), right-click on the blue highlighted area, then select "Copy".

4. Next, put your cursor over the FSM browser window within the new posting that you're creating, right-click, and select "Paste". You should now see the address of the picture that you just copied the address from. Do this for all of the pictures that you want to post. Then, add immediately after each address (leave out the space between the g and ]). After you've done this, you can then edit your message within the post, moving around the text & picture information as needed. Once you're satisfied with how it all looks, just preview the message before you post it to make it sure it all works and looks good. Usually, the errors are in the [img] thingies, or maybe something didn't get copied correctly in the addresses. So, if something doesn't look right, just make sure that your picture addresses are correct and the "img" thingies are correct. Once it all works in the preview mode, post it!!!

I hope this helps you out. If you need any more help, just e-mail me at marinesgt@sbcglobal.net. I'll be glad to give you any advice that I can.

W W :
Thanks for the detailed info. I have also been trying to post pictures without success. I will try out your instructions as soon as I have a few minutes to work with them. I keep getting the window with the little white square that has a red X in it. Any idea what causes that?

Yep. Either the URL address for the picture is incorrect, or, the img thingies are incorrect. You should have (don't put the space between the g and ]. I have to do that here to keep from generating the dreaded red X while explaining this.) immediately after the address, with no space between [ and the last part of the address. Also, make sure that the / is in the last thingie. I usually forget to put that in as well. But, overall, I would say that there is something wrong in the address, as the red X would not appear if just the are just placeholders for the pictures within the text of your message, and, if they're wrong, you'll get the picture's URL address in the text instead of a picture, and not the red X. The red X only appears when the the program that we're using here can't find the address specified between the [img] thingies.

Just give my instructions to stuka a try, and you'll probably discover what is wrong. Hope this helps!! Good Luck!!

Folks,

One thing that I forgot to mention above is:

At the website that you've uploaded your pictures to, first click on the picture that you want to post to enlarge it, THEN right-click on it to get the address information. If you just use the small thumbnail address, then that's what you'll see in your post: the thumbnail picture only, and it can't be enlarged. If you enlarge the picure first, then get the address info for the enlarged picture and use that in your posting, you'll get a larger picture than a thumbnail, plus it can be enlarged by clicking on it. Sorry that I didn't mention this earlier. Hope this helps you out.

Yardbird,

Thanks for the vote of confidence!! I greatly appreciate it. It took me quite a while as well to figure this stuff out, as the Community Forum tips leave a lot to be desired. I think the tips assume that most of us are almost-experts at computing....................

Just a guess, but you might be trying to upload bmt or bitmap images. These are large files, usually 1/2 to one megabyt. Many servers and web hosts just can't handle these large files. Make sure the photos you are trying to upload are jpg format.

Yep, you gotta make sure that they're .jpg images. Most web hosting sites will only accept .jpg images. Other than that, ya got me.....

Stuka,

Where can we see this Typhoon of yours? I'd love to see it, as I recently bought a Hasegawa 1/48th Typhoon car-door version myself.

I asked Wild Weasel that same question and he answered it in post #6 of this thread. I tried to hand copy the photo url address and invariably got something wrong. I recommend the "Copy and Paste" routine Wild Weasel described. Alien [alien]

What website are you posting them to? It's possible that the website has a problem, or someone at the website deleted your pictures. Also, if you're using a Yahoo-based website (like I originally was), that could be the problem. I don't know why, but when I used my 2GB of web space at Yahoo to post my images, sometimes I could see them in my FSM posts, sometimes I couldn't. But nobody else could see them, regardless if I could or not. So I started posting them all to www.rongeorge.com, and haven't had a problem since. Just read previous posts in this subject thread to find out how to post to Ron George's site. Good Luck!!

When I first starting posting pictures, I used my RC club site as a host. Everything worked fine until I tried to, fix it when it wasn't broke. I posted several pictures to a camera company site and everything worked fine as long as I was signed into the site and using it. When I signed out, the site wouldn't let anyone in to the pictures, so the dreaded red Xs appeared. I switched the pictures back to my RC club site and they now work fine. Alien [alien]

Your pictures may have been moved to the aircraft section?

rongeorge has an upload section they use as a staging area. The web site administrators periodically move the pictures to the appropriate section.

I would check rongeorge and see it you can find your pictures. I didn’t see any Hurricane pictures?
