Local Hobby shop listings?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, February 9, 2006 10:42 AM
Im new to this modeling thing and I need somewhere to start out. Is there a website or something out there that shows listings. Ive tried yahoo and google kind of stuff but no luck. I live in central texas between Austin and San Antonio (maybe that will help).

http://www.hobbyretailer.com/

or

http://local.google.com

Not sure where "in between" San Antonio or Austin you are so I picked a search near San Marcos. But, it looks like you are in for a 20-30 mile trip either way.

We also print a hobby shop directory in the back of every issue of FineScale Modeler.  There's a shop listed named Dibble's in San Antonio (210-735-7721.)

I used to visit San Antonio for a month every year for 5 years and found that Dibbles is one of the better Hobby Shops in town. There's also a Hobbytown USA that's not bad, depending on what you are looking for.

My first task when hitting any town is to pick up the local Yellow pages and look under hobby shops and start calling. FYI, I just checked the Yahoo Yellow Pages (search term Hobby Shops) for San Antonio and got 25 listings.
