How to post pictures
Posted by David Voss on Monday, November 13, 2006 10:42 AM

Important Notice Regarding Pictures
Please only post pictures which are relevant to the hobby and appropriate for any audience. There could be children reading these forums so we would like to keep the discussions clean. So please don't post pictures which could be deemed offensive, violent or pornographic in nature. Pictures, or posts for that matter, which are deemed inappropriate will be removed without notice.

Hosting
Before posting pictures, you first need to have them hosted somewhere.  There are a number of services that provide hosting (Free photo hosting).  You may want to check with your ISP (Internet Service Providers - example: AOL, MSN, Earthlink, etc.). Most ISPs provide their customers with 5-10MB of space for the purpose of hosting personal web pages and pictures.

Once you have found a host for your pictures and uploaded the pictures, you will need the URL (the location or web address) for your picture.

The URL should look something like this:
http://www.finescale.com/fsm/objects/images/fsm061201.jpg

Posting Pictures: Using Forum Tags
To post a picture using forum tags, use the following format:

Posting Pictures: Using Image Button
To post a picture using the picture button, click on the picture button .  A window will popup with a field labeled "Image URL".  Copy and paste the URL for the picture into the field labeled "Image URL".  After you have entered the Image URL, you should see the picture in the "Preview" box.  If the picture doesn't show up, try clicking on the preview box.  If the picture is correct, then click on the button labeled "Insert".

Note: If the popup window doesn't show up, it might be due to popup blockers.

Posting Pictures: Using HTML
To post a picture using HTML, you will need to switch to HTML mode by clicking on the HTML button .  Using HTML mode, add the picture using the HTML image tag.

Example:

<img src="http://www.finescale.com/fsm/objects/images/fsm061201.jpg">

Note: The attributes allowed for the image tag is limited.

1)  Highlight the image's URL (from Photobucket, Image Properties, etc.)

2)  If your browser has EDIT on the toolbar, select EDIT - COPY.  This copies the contents of the highlighted area.   Left click on the destination (i.e. the IMG Tag line) and select EDIT - PASTE.

3)  If your browser doesn't have an EDIT on the toolbar, the quickest CUT and PASTE is by using the CTRL key.   Press CTRL and C (simultaneously) to copy the contents of the highlighted area.   Left click the destination and press CTRL and V (simultaneously) to paste the contents.

David

under my profile, should I enable the Avatar?

also - I saw the posts on how to insert a photo and have to play around with it, and have to spend a little time there to work it out.

Meantime, how can I insert a picture by my name, in that column to the left?

Thanx

David,

I have posted pictures successfully and have also used a pic as my avatar however I could use some help as I cannot figure out how to post a pic as part of my signature, example; the coat of arms above your signature.

                                       Thanks, Kent

Hi everyone . Over the past few weeks i have posted a number of pics in the helicopter forum section . At first they seem to come out okay but after I have posted them and check back later , If I click on the image to slightly enlarge the pic it comes out ten times too big ; this is certainly not what I intended . Other members photos only enlarge a little bit - which makes viewing thier images much more pleasurable . Obvisiously I'm doing something wrong !!! Is it when I first upload the images from my digital camera to my computer , should I be making some type of image size addjustment first ? I get extremly frustrated when I view my own pic's i've posted , I don't know why my images have to enlarge so big . Posting the image isn't the problem , what happens afterwards is really annoying me . The last thing I want to do is make it difficult for others to view my pic's . Kind regards Helo 53

So that's how to do it! Thank you for the post!!

Through various searches I'd found a way to post pictures, but it showed the entire photo rather than this way where there is a 'thumbnail' that you click for the whole picture. I'm so happy to finally know!

Hi David,

Sorry to bump this post, but I wanted to check to see if anything has changed in the method to post pictures since the forum upgrade (being that your very helpful tutorial is from 2006).  Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Rick
