Yes, free is nice, but, remember, you get what you pay for.
Most virus checkers offer a free version, but, these free versions do not protect from everything in the Internet, most of them are rather weak and are designed to get you interested in their product. It works like when companies give examples of their goods, but, those examples are usually in very small packages.
