Forum gripe?
Posted by hkshooter on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 8:56 PM

The tool bar pops up to fast. If one scrolls though it on the way to the links it pops up so fast it blocks the links. Or maybe I'm a wuss and don't scroll fast enough.
And why does the site seem so slow? I thought it was my internet connection being that I was using an air card but with my recent move and susequent use of cable internet it still takes ten to fifteen seconds for a page to load.

Really trying to love the site but it's making it tough.

Sometimes it is because of the time of day and the overload of people on the net. The site usually works fine for me, but sometimes during peak times it will bog down a little. Not as long as 15 seconds, though. What have you got running in the background? It could be your IP or your internet connection.

I've noticed it getting slower over the last couple of weeks, with a few times this last week it locks while loading a page and needs a page refresh.

Allow the page to fully load before scrolling of clicking.

Sounds like your machine needs maintenance. Try cleaning memory cache & defragmentation in 'system maintenance' Both will speed up your PC.

Good suggestions. I normally keep two browsers open and sometimes have multiple tabs. I honestly don't know what runs in the background besides my wireless router software but I know there has to be something. I normally clean out my temp files once a week.
I tend to dismiss that my machine is the cause of the problem for the simple fact that FSM's site is the only one I experience the problem with. I visit two different motorcycle forums, three different gun forums, and four different model forums. FSM is the only one I have this problem with and honestly, it's been happening since the change over.
Again, I thought it was my connection but now that I've switched to a much faster service and everything else is much faster, FSM still creeps along, averaging probably seven seconds for a page to load, sometimes as long as fifteen, though it's not as common. And while the page loads? It locks my machine, can't switch to another tab or browser while I wait. Something else that's been happening since the change over.

I, too, visit many different forums (though I manage to keep to one browser!) and FSM is the slowest by far. It is also the one that the users tend to use lots of images in their sig lines. I wonder if the .gif movies for the group badges may be the reason?

Now I use images in my sig line, though they are static ones, but the option to turn off such things would likely speed up the website.

So long folks!

I will back that the site is getting slow...to the point where I close the browser and go somewhere else.  At one time its use to go really fast.   It doesn't matter what computer I use and from where, its getting slower.

Good point about the don't matter what computer. I use the comp at work as well as my machine at home and the result is the same.

It's funny (well, not really) but I've been up pretty late a few nights in the last couple weeks and tried to get on.  For me, the site has been running the slowest in the middle of the night (say midnight to 2 am) - maybe they do some sort of scheduled 'maintenance' during those off peak hours to clean things up?

I don't know, but I agree with the consensus - this site is slow and seems to be getting slower...
