Problems With Firefox

Happy to hear it was that simple.

My Firefox was having problems connecting to any website even though another browser had no problem connecting.

I still have the older version and bookmarks backed up , in case the current version proves incompatible with installed software,

One of the reasons OS upgrade is to deal with issues and glitches in an ever changing digital environment. Some of the upgrade address security issues, functionality as well as connectivity issues. By not upgrading you will eventually have such issues.

 

Thanks, Hawkeye.  For me, the trick is figuring when the two curves intersect (declining performance of old software vs. features or fixes in the new), and only then burning an evening or a weekend on upgrades, followed by the inevitable tweaking.

I agree! What OS are you using? I would export your bookmarks to an HTML file before you do upgrade. Bookmarks>Show all bookmarks>Import and backup>Export HTML. Save to your desktop and once 5.0 is installed you follow the same path and then select Import instead. Be sure to note any password you have saved as new version will not know them.

Thanks for responding, jimbot58.  Fortunately I didn't have to go that far—fortunate because I don't a spare evening just now to spend maintaining software.

Your browser has probably become corrupted.

I had similar connection problems and deleted Firefox, then downloaded and installed  the newest version.

I have had no problems since.

Uhhh, I am running Firefox 5.0. Firefox is free, so why are you running version 3.6.18? Nostalgia?

I dunno. Possibly for the same reason I still use the hammer I bought forty years ago?  It still works and the newer hammers don't seem to work any better?  Well, it was working until a few days ago...

Seriously, for me, software is a tool.  I'm not interested in it as an end in itself, and I don't usually jump at the latest and greatest version because as often as not it has created new issues and I lose an evening or two trying to get it to work as well as it did before.

The worst case was Office 2007.  After 28 years of becoming a power user in Word, Excel and Access, Micro$oft turned me instantly back into a novice.  I could punch somebody for that.  I'm convinced that the recession wasn't caused by the housing bubble, but by the lost productivity as the business world tried to convert to Office 2007 and nothing got done for weeks.

After 10 years of high productivity at work using AutoCAD 2000, I upgraded to 2011 and now I've lost dozens of hours trying to get the old productivity back for my crew and me.

Please forgive me if I appear flippant.  I appreciate your taking the time to respond, and I don't want my hostility toward some software publishers to splash onto you or the other kind people who went to the trouble of helping me.

I deleted the cookies and that fixed it.

Oh I know "eventually" I'll need to switch up, I guess I'm just old-school and prefer to see the first few rounds of revisions taken care of on new software. That being said, Mozilla seems pretty good at not releasing software before it's ready, and there are constant little updates. I doubt I'll wait too much longer before switching.

I use FF5.0 on my other computer and everything's been working fine.

I wonder if you may have an issue with outdated cookies - perhaps try clearing your browser cache and cookies and see if that helps?

hmmm interesting Bruce.  I have fire fox at home and fine scale is my home page but havnt logged into the forums from home latelly.  I will try tomorrow and let you know what happens.
