Only Delete or Lock a Thread ? Why ?
Posted by Sprue-ce Goose on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 7:32 AM

Aaron:

The recent comments about unwanted posts on threads prompted this thread - which may or may not be seen by anyone in this Forum  location.Embarrassed

Are Deleting or Locking an entire thread the only Forum Moderator options available in the forum software package?

It seems surprising that an option for deleting a single, individual post within a thread would not be available to the moderator when the post creator has the option of requesting deletion of his own post.

If Forum Moderators do have a single post deletion option, why has it not been used?

I only recall the Thread Delete or Thread Lock options being used.

Comments by Forum Staff ?

I'm not staff, but I'll still offer an opinion on this.

I think the 'single post delete' is an option - in fact I remember Aaron using it recently (can't recall what for). But, the reality is, I think that puts too much on the Forum admins. They've got plenty of other, non-Forum related stuff to do without having to go through each thread and decide which posts get to stay and which get to go.

Doing a wholesale delete of a thread also prevents a member from claiming a bias against his or her posts, if they were to keep getting indidually deleted.

But ultimately, I think that they try to refrain from deleting threads wholesale, but once they go off the rails, just deleting a single post or two ain't gonna be enough to get them back on.
