Forum Axeman

There was a thread on here regarding a particular movie. It was locked this morning due to it "not being a discussion of model building". However, I know that I myself had planned on putting in some model related posts today. CGI modeling vs old school miniature models. But I wake up, and low and behold I can not because the axe man had struck and locked the thread. It is not uncommon for a thread to meander around and cover many subjects yet still come back to model related topics again and again. This is a rather annoying for a discussion to be locked when it was following forum guidelines and still in some aspects be considered modeling related. We have many threads on here that are brazenly not model building related in any way shape or form that go for a while and die off without ever being locked. and many that have been non model building related in weeks or months. So please FSM, how about keeping the "axe man" in check and giving a heads up rather than the sudden lock. After all, the axe is not being applied with an even hand across the boards.

True...I didn't even realize it was locked. Can't there be a military subject related forum or something? If I recall, there is a thread that is discussing Military Books floating around out there some where....not to dime it out, of course, just making a point that there are similar posts out there that haven't met with the same fate. Since a lot of the modelers here do have a high interest in military subjects, why not enable a forum to discuss said non-modeling military subjects or pop culture military references?

Dear Stikpusher,

We (and I stress "we") locked the "Redtails" thread for a couple of reasons. We had let the thread go because there were some mentions of CGI versus physical models. However, the discussion quickly spread to other topics. Also, there were some posts with images and comments that were borderline offensive.

We understand that threads will meander, and so long as the majority of it is about modeling, we will let those go. The "Redtails" thread was about seeing the movie and only tangentially touched on modeling.

If you wish to create a thread about CGI modeling vs. physical models, please by all means do so.

If you wish to discuss this further, please feel free to email me directly.

Best,

TK

Its in the "Aircraft" forum. it was about aircraft. what's the problem?

It was locked because it wasnt about models? Are they going to lock the aircraft trivia quiz next?

And im sure there were a couple posts about models in that thread.

I think it should need 2 mods to lock a thread. One to initiate. one to approve.

edit: Tim posted same time as me. One of those "Borderline offensive" comments was me. I admit that.
