The USS UNITED STATES Foundation is still at it; educating the public of the importance of this galant frigate and First Ship of the United States Navy.
A couple of years ago we lost the only known decendant of the frigate UNITED STATES; Submarine Lt. Cdr. Lowell Stewart Taylor. His GGGrandfather was US Marine Cpl. Edward W. Taylor who served the frigate from 1842-1844. Cpl Taylor saved Herman Melville from an unjust flogging, the only dark period of this frigate's career.
We also lost a major contributor; Charles Desiderio. Charlie was a managing Director for the Salvation Army and had me on his talk show about two dozen times to talk about the frigate UNITED STATES. And the closest to me was my Dad who passed away Dec. 2010 and my Mom 1 year and 1 day later 2011.
