Hey guys,

Let's suppose I have this as my sig line:

Tim Kidwell

Associate Editor

FineScale Modeler

The system sees this:

<p><span style='text-decoration: underline;'><em><strong>Tim Kidwell</strong></em></span></p>
<p>Associate Editor</p>
<p>FineScale Modeler</p>

That's 142 characters by itself, all counted against the 500-character max.

If I add an image link that surpasses the the character max, the system will abbreviate it and the image won't show up.

If instead you put the image link first, then whatever text came at the end would be abbreviated at the 500-character max.

Sorry guys, I don't make the rules, I just live by them. Sort of like the 160 character max Google puts on meta descriptions or the 125 character limit put on image metadata. It is what it is.

If you have any more questions about the character limit, please feel free to PM me.

Thanks,

Tim

hi bill

no one seems to know why this character limit is doing this. what many of us do, at least with the non-animated GIFs, is this:

use a photo editing program and make a multi GB file

as you get a new badge, drop it into the program and size it etc.

open the multi badge file, add the new badge, do whatever manipulations you want, and save it.

put that single file in your signature.

that should do it. i presume you have the IMG tag for the file

Getting badges
Posted by FlyItLikeYouStoleIt on Friday, April 26, 2013 9:43 PM

Alright, I've just spent HOURS trying to accomplish what should've taken seconds. I've read all the other posts about getting badges into your signature and NOTHING works. copy-paste, insert URL,  etc etc etc. . . . . .

if I can easily insert photos into forums, why cant I use the same method to get the badge into my signature ????? VERY FRUSTRATING

Oh I should add, I can get it there but it tells me there's too many characters and wont let me save.

Again, I've tried EVERY posted hint in forums
