Weird Forums connection problems
Posted by mitsdude on Monday, December 2, 2013 11:17 PM

I spent the weekend thinking the forums were under maintenance as I could not connect.

I get to work this morning, connect right away and think its been fixed . I go home and have the same old "trying to connect" which eventually times out.

I'm using the same version of IE (11.0.9600) at both places. I've changed nothing on my home computer. Up until this weekend I didn't having any problems getting to the forums.

Finescale forums is the "only" site I'm having problems with. The rest of Finescale works fine.

I'm currently using FireFox which works fine as does Chrome.

Its no big deal as I'm not a "fanboy" of any particular browser. I only use IE because its what I've always used and I'm familiar with it more than the others.

Any ideas?

Have you tried flushing your browser history, temporary files and cookies?

Did all of that this weekend.

However!!! I just went back and checked the tab all of those options are on and noticed at the very top of the page is a selection called "Preserve Favorites Web Site Data" that is "checked" by default. So to "not preserve" you have to uncheck it. I simply misread -misinterpreted.

Sounds like you've got it sorted, but this may be of interest.

Yeah I saw that topic but didn't read it because I use win 7.

Its been my experience that Compatibility Mode can introduce its own problems.

Yep, I'm on W7 too. My page timeout started immediately after it self-updated to IE11,  Forcing it to load in Compatibilty Mode stopped the load problem.

The problem with Compatibility Mode is some sites will now work but the formatting is all messed up. Embedded audio/video may not work correctly.
