Can't see rich formatting toolbar
Posted by Striker8241 on Saturday, January 4, 2014 3:16 PM
I was recently upgraded to Internet Explorer 11 without knowing it so I guess I'm stuck with it. Now when I reply to a post and click on the "Use rich formatting" option, the tool bar doesn't display. I've tried changing settings in IE but can't find what's causing this. Would appreciate any help, Thanks, Russ

Ok, I fixed my problem. Had to remove the IE 11 upgrade.

Hi Russ,

IE 11 doesn't play nice with some websites. If you decide to reinstall the upgrade, you can minimize some of the difficulties by using compatibility mode.

Regards,

Tim

Thanks, Tim,

I don't think I'll reinstall IE11. Not only did it mess up my posting on this site, but now it's totally messed up viewing videos on U-Tube, even after I uninstalled it and went back to IE10. Now I have to use Firefox for U-tube.

Thanks, Microsoft - you can never leave well enough alone. Super Angry

Russ, my laptop has just up graded to IE 11 and I am still getting the toolbar and you tube is working ok. Are you sure its not something else.

But I know what you mean about Microsoft. There was an up date in Sept which messed up all my documents on Word Starter which made it a real pain to access. I have finally fixed it but only after putting my laptop back to factory settings.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Hi, Bish,

Could be, bud, but I don't know what else it could be. The problem with the tool bar started when I upgraded to IE11 and went away when I went back to IE10. The You Tube problem started when I also installed the Adobe Flash Player v11 after the IE11 upgrade. I've tried going back to FP10 but it's no longer available. The FP11 upgrade works fine on Firefox.

When I have to use IE, I generally use the newest release with Compatibility View switched on, for a couple of months, till web developers have caught up.

Thanks, Baron, I gave that a try.  But first, I downloaded the v11 update again and installed it (again). Now when I click on a You Tube link that uses FP, all I get is a little busy wheel in the center. If I wait a couple minutes, the video will finally start. Here's what's interesting though - when I clicked on the screen in frustration, the video started right away, but then suddenly I got a screen twice as big as the largest screen that you normally get (not the full screen view, but almost fills the desktop). Don't know if that's some new feature or if I tapped into a glitch in the software, but I like it! Big Smile

BTW, Tim, Baron, I tried setting everything to compatibility mode and it works normally. Thanks for the suggestion, guys. Doesn't give me that extra big screen though...

Anyway, thanks everyone for your help and interest in this problem. Let's put this thread to rest Smile

Cheers,

Russ
