I have high speed DSL, and can watch streaming video even on my TV with no problems.  But I do find the FSM site- especially the forum- quite slow.

That's the issue with some HOAs - they get these exclusive contracts with local service providers (water, cable, phone, etc.) under the auspices of "helping" the community. I don't see how they can do this legally, but, then again, I ain't no lawyer, so what do I know? We just got rid of DirecTV after 20+ years with them. Nothing wrong with them - we were only watching maybe 10 channels out of the hundreds available, and finally decided that we can get along just fine with local channels and NetFlix. And, you know what? We don't miss the satellite stuff one bit! Saves us about $80 per month, too. More model money!! Woo Hoo!! If you do get DirecTV, go with the whole-home DVR option - it's all wireless now, and works great. You can move a TV around, even outside (as long as you have an electrical outlet nearby), and watch everything, without needing to run a cable from the receiver. Cool stuff. Expensive, yes, but cool. That's what we had.

They got the cable thing monopolized too. We're gonna go with Direct TV or Dish eventually or who knows, just sell the freaking house and move away from HOA's and monopolies.

I have DSL. It's fast at times, crawls other times. When we lived in Greenville SC we had ATT Uverse and it was faster than the speed of light, never had a problem. I think the builder of this community made a deal with Bright House for them to have monopoly of all 81 homes. It SUCKS.

I had DSL when I lived in Georgia, and it was extremely slow. You're sharing analog voice data along with digital data over two small wires with very little bandwidth (I think DSL is limited to 6MBps). Not a lot you can do with that. Many nights, our Internet access in Georgia would slow to a crawl for a while, then be decently fast (for DSL), then slow down again. Just depended upon how many people were trying to use the Internet at the same time with a DSL connection in the same neighborhood.

Does any company provide cable TV in your area? If so, you can get really fast Internet connectivity with that. We have Time-Warner Cable's Internet connection at 50MBps (no TV, just Internet), and it is amazingly fast. We can watch different movies on more than one device at a time (I'm watching one while my wife is watching another via Netflix), and no hiccups at all while doing it. Something to consider, if it's available........

I have an iMac computer with Maverick software and Safari browser.  The site is blazing fast with this setup.  Never a problem, knock on wood!

I forgot about rebooting the router and it was working better after I did so. We have been having A LOT of problems with Bright House Networks and thought they fixed the problem when they replaced the router with a better one. They are the only providers in my area so I'm stuck with them and their sucky equipment.

One thing to consider is that your Internet connection is shared with everyone else in your neighborhood, so, if there is a lot of people trying to access the Web in your neck of the woods at the same time, it will definitely slow down your connection.

I have noticed the site to be extremely slow, specially when changing pages to the point of almost freezing. I'm I the only one with this issue?
