Well I have seen a new problem.  The last two times I have tried to compose longer messages, the screen locked up.  Then, the screen goes to a login page.  I was asked to log-in again.  What in the heck is it with this site.  How irritating. Is there a time limit set for people to type before you get knocked out?

The first time it happend I decided I will try composing again on my desktop.  I logged in and eventually I got it done.  However, I noticed certain things locking up on there too.  I didn't get kicked out though.  Just so you know...I was using Google Chrome and not Explorer.  Others have suggested it works better for this site.  Google Chrome does seem to work better but I noticed glitches with it too.  I do not have any of these problems with any other sites I that I frequent..  Very frustrating.  

I better hit post before I get kicked out again.  Grrrrr.

Hi Tim--

I found a few more things things that might help your software people with their future updates.  

Yesterday, I was in the Messages section posting a reply and the same situation came up where I lost the ability to use the reply button.  I was using my I-Pad.  I did some screen captures to give you a visual.  A few things I should note.

1.  I blurred the text to protect the amenity of the poster.

2.  While typing the post I did pinch the corners to enlarge the view but, I was far from being at maximum. In order to try and get access to the reply button, I did minimize the view.  It made no difference. I even tried changing the orientation of the tablet and it made no difference.

3.  I noticed another graphic anomaly during all this.  There was a small flashing line showing through the FSM graphics.  I noted this on the image below and in yellow. By the way, that is not the cursor/insertion point. That in fact is still located in the text area.

4.  Since I was stuck and with no way to send my message, I did what I have done in the past. I had to select and copy my reply into the buffer.  I then went out of the Message area completely by going into another forum. Then I went back to my messages, found the posters message, and I pasted the text. I have found that if I don't completely go out of the forum area that I was working, the same problem occurs when I paste the text back in, no matter what.

At this point I was able to see the reply button and I could then send the post. With previous occurrences though, when I pasted the text it would always end up jumbling together.  This time it did not.  

5.  One other thing I should note. The first time I accessed FSMs site using my iPad I had noticed an graphic anomaly on the home page.  I pasted an image below.  This anomaly does not show up when I use my PC but it is there every-time when I use the IPad.  I am beginning to wonder if these issues on my IPad are related to Flash.  Apple does not allow Flash on their devices.  I guess that is "partly" because of security issues that Flash poses.  This does not explain though, the similar issues I have seen using two other PCs.  One of them being a work PC, and one being my personal PC.

As mentioned by others in earlier replies, I use Chrome exclusively on a Dell Inspiron running Windows 8.1 64-bit and 8GB RAM, and have none of the issues that have been mentioned here. Haven't used Internet Explorer in a long, long time. Chrome is free, and very easy to figure out how to use.

thanks for the follow-up and I appreciate your time and effort to try and resolve this.  I will consider the options you are presenting.  If something changes or if I see some other possible solutions, I will report back.  Until then I will deal with it. Its not the end of the world.  Indifferent

Yeah it is strange.  Something must be happening because other people are having some issues too and I wonder how many are not reporting it.  The compatibly view seems like a logical theory but for me, it does not seem to fix the issue. Then one could wonder if my device or machine is corrupted.  I could see that too but I am seeing the same problems on three different devices, one of them not using IE11.

The only advice I can lend you concerning your difficulties with IE11 beyond using compatibility mode is to migrate to Chrome or Firefox. I use Chrome exclusively at work and home--on both my Mac and PC--without any issues.

I notice every once in a while, the little green banner at the bottom of the screen will move to the middle of the screen when using the iPad. At that point, I just click it closed. We haven't been able to replicate the copy and paste problems you're encountering with Safari on the iPad. But it sounds like coding for line breaks is somehow not recognized or eliminated during the process. 

As for the "Post" button disappearing behind graphics at the bottom of the screen, I can only assume that you're opening up the typing window to it's max. Just grab the corner and reduce it a bit and the "post" button should reappear. 

That's about the extent of what we can offer without being at your computer. As I said, the Forum is now on the docket for a software upgrade in which these issues (and others) should be resolved. Although, Windows 9 and IE 12 will probably introduce a new bugs, we'll do what we can to kill them.

If it's on any use or consequence, if you have "delete browsing history" selected in IE11, this will remove any compatibility view setting at the end of session & the next time you launch IE you will be back to square one.

If you would like, I can begin to doing some screen captures if and when the problems come up.  If so, I would prefer to continue this discussion via email mainly because of the issues I am seeing with inserting images.  It is just too cumbersome otherwise.

I'll pass on your comments to our online team and we'll add it to the things we test for or next software update (which isn't too far off). As for now, all I can tell you is that we haven't run into the issues you are experiencing. We'll try to replicate your findings on the test site and see what we can come up with.

Here is the test pasting the previous text into rich text.  By the way. When I look above at my last posting, the end of the sentences (to the right) are cut off.  So for some reason how its being displayed cuts the view off.  This has happened to me before too.

 

Tim--  here is what I just learned of the problem from the 3 previous tests that I just ran. Before I start, I just want to explain that I am  working on my office PC right now.  This PC has  IE11, just as my home PC does. Both are current with updates, and compatibly view does not make a difference on this PC.  I have not tried my home PC.  Here is what I can tell you.

1.  The first two tests seemed to work ok.  I did NOT use the rich formatting feature on those.  In both of these cases I created a text line. I then highlighted the first line and copied it into the buffer. I then placed the curser at the end of the first line and hit return 1 or 2 times to create a paragraph break, and then I pasted the first line data that's in the buffer into that position. I did this process several times.  That worked ok and it held the integrity of the paragraph breaks.

2.  On the third attempt above, I followed the same procedure but this time I did so using the rich formatting option.  It is here that I lose the sentence breaks and things jumble together, as shown above and on the third attempt.

Having just discovered that the problem seems localized to the rich formatting option, maybe there is an option I am missing in there?  When I think about it, I have had a lot of issues when adding images to posts too, and that is via the rich formatting option.   I lose paragraph breaks and if I insert more than one image, I have in fact lost the ability to select the post button.  I get a nice posting in place and then have no ability to hit the post button.  It gets buried underneath some of FSM's fixed graphics.  This problem has happened to me on both my Ipad and my PC, but it "seems" less troublesome on my PC.  As the post grows either by text and or by images, the post button gets pushed down and disappears.

My other point is this.   If I type a message without cutting or pasting sentences to reorganize my thoughts, the posts come out fine, even within the rich formatting option. That seems true except in the case what I add images.  Then I have the disappearing post button.

These are the problems I have seen.  I am not sure if this is what others are seeing.  Some of it seems to be.

By the way.  I typed this post out with no cutting and pasting, and not using the rich formatting.  For testing purposes, I will copy this data and paste it into a second post using the rich formatting. Lets see if the problem occurs.

In seriousness, when we delete a post, we have to fill out a little form that says why the message is getting deleted, and then the deleted post goes into a folder of deleted posts. It really is an admin job. So, if there's a post that you've made and you like deleted, just ask us. Usually, though, we reserve deletions for posts that break the Forum rules. A post that gets accidentally posted into the wrong thread can just be moved. And we don't delete old posts.

Adding the site to compatibility view 100% cures the issue  in IE11;

The most likely culprit for the text interface problems is an update to your computer's browser. If using Internet Explorer 11, try setting it to compatibility mode. I use the latest versions of Safari, Firefox, and Chrome without issue. If this doesn't work, let me know and we'll explore other options.

Well anyway... I wish they would fix this or at last acknowledge the problem.  There are some serious bugs on this site.  What is the point of this Error Reporting forum if it doesn't get monitored. Letting the problem fester is not a good way to do business.

Yeah  I had the problem today again.  One thing I noticed.  Whenever I do any type of pasting in the post, the problem happens every time.  Whether it be a link or a sentence that I paste.  As long as I don't paste, it works ok.  Did you do any pasting?

I am having the same problem. No matter what I type its all compressed together. In Rich formatting all the buttons for inserting images, links etc are gone. In case it happens here too, everything before all the X's is new to this post, double spaced, added the X's and cut/paste the message that I 1st noticed this. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Something wrong... Can't post properly. When I type out the post all the spacing and formatting is gone an it's all compressed into a single paragraph. Words, image file, links... everything. The buttons at the top to insert images, make links etc are gone. Anyone else having this problem. To see if it happens again this post has 4 parts separated with spaces.
