Suggestion: Reduce signature size, increase photo sizes
Posted by elation on Sunday, January 29, 2017 9:30 PM

Love the forum but I think it can improve from a little change?

We like to share our work and everyone learns or enjoys from members' picture postings. But FineScale Modler forum automatically reduces the picture size to 500x370 ish and that is just too small. Some member's signature is double size than that. I often click on the pictures just to have closer look at them and it gets tiring when there are multiple pictures posted in one thread.

Can we adjust it to at least 600px height? (eg. 800x600px)

and reduce the member's signature to 150px height max? Plus a couple of lines of text? Sometimes you sroll down so much for a little contents because one person's signature is half a page long. and when he posts 3-4 times in one thread....

Thanks!

If you go to setting, you can un check user sig's so they do not appear.

Ah I see.

I am assuming the point of auto resizing is to save the bandwidth of the forum. If we limit the size of the signature, I am sure it will save tons of space. Unless the same repeating images don't take much space.

Oh. There's a suggestion forum. Oops.

The size of the sig is limited to a set number of charectors. The reason some have such large sig images is because they have combined GB badges into one pic. Or, they use the GIF. But i don't find those rotating images to be to big or the images in posts to small, apart from a few exceptions which i guess is down to how they are sized by the host or the hosting site.

I don't want to pick on you or anything but since you are here and you have a signature with an image...

I just find that signature takes too much space.

Your signature takes up about 15 lines and most of members inputs are maybe less than 4-5 lines.

I don't know. Maybe it doesn't bother anyone else. Probably because I come from forums with strict sig limites. I've been around automotive forums for 15+ years.

But it's not a huge deal. I can just turn it off like you suggested, but it is an easy way to recognize certain members.

Though I really want to see larger images when members post pictures.

Thanks!

Photos use to be larger, but the forum design was changed to a narrower format - this was to accommodate those using handheld devices.  I don't know if a survey of some kind was ever done to determine numbers and types of viewing screens used by members ....

Photos are linked so they can be viewed in larger format, but that also depends on the size of the orignal upload.

regards,

Jack

The size ofmy sig varies depoending on what image i use. I can see thats its rather big at the moment. We have had other complain about the size of sig's,often bigger than mine, which is why i put my GB badges in my profile. But as i mentioned, sigs can be removed by the individual.

I have tried this numerous times and it does not work. The signatures should be eliminated completely.

I am not sure what going on there then. I have just turned them off and it worked apart from Jacks GIF sig image. But mine is no longer showing.

I need a "How To" on putting a GB badge into my signature area. I uploaded the image but when I click "Update Settings" I get this:

Validation Error

When I join a forum, the first thing I do is to disable the viewing of signatures. So I tried that here, but it did not work for me, so I decided to see if was platform dependent.

I have unchecked the "view user signatures"  but I still see the signatures with chrome, firefox, or safari on a Mac.

I tried with with my android phone, and the signatures are gone.

Next, I logged in with a windows 10 PC, and tried Edge, chrome, and firefox. I got the same results as the mac, signatures were present, despite the setting.

I even tried changing the user agent with chrome on the mac to every available option, but the signatures are still there.

Any way I hope an admin  sees this and maybe there is a setting that can be changed on the forum software to make that setting work for all platforms.

SprueOne, I just had the same problem. Have you had any luck figuring it out?
