Hot links for URL's not working

I, and several other modelers, have had the same experience. Sometimes - but not often for me - the use of the diagonal symbol into which one pastes/writes a URL link and hits the OK button in hopes that it will become "hot" works. More often it does not. It's frustrating because there's an initial blue type in the link but, when one clicks the link ... no joy.
I, and I'm sure others, would very much appreciate the powers that be investigating and addressing this problem.
