The "new" Search function sucks, not to mince words
Posted by mfsob on Friday, November 11, 2005 11:30 AM

I was trying to be restrained, but after having actually tried to USE the new Search fuctions ... I'm one of those who tries to find the answers before posting a question. Here are a few of my issues:

1) NO up front or easily findable "Advanced Search" button. We had it with the old forums. Where is it?

2) NO date-limiting feature. Why not? Now I may get 50 replies to something that I know was posted in the last few months, because it's going to look all the way back to 2000 or wherever.

3) NO easily-identifiable Search button. It should be a contrasting color, something to make it stand out from the blandness of the new forums.

4) NO jump from the "hits" directly to that particular message. The best you get is the start of that topic, then you have to wade through it trying to find what you wanted.

5) TOO MANY jumps when you make selections - why do I get booted to an new screen when I try to select which forums to search? Remember, Finescale, some of us still have dial-up ... ever step or jump or click you have added to the process makes our attempts to use the forums that much more agonizing.

6) MISSING posts. As a test, I went looking for things I know that I got specific results for pre-upgrade. They're not there now. Where are they?

Some answers to these few modest queries would be nice. Thanks.

Sure does, I tried to find a couple of my previous posts to add to them and they don't show up. I have 2500+ posts, you'd think more than three would show in a search.
