Short for RDF Site Summary or Rich Site Summary, an XML format for syndicating Web content. A Web site that wants to allow other sites to publish some of its content creates an RSS document and registers the document with an RSS publisher. A user that can read RSS-distributed content can use the content on a different site. Syndicated content includes such data as news feeds, events listings, news stories, headlines, project updates, excerpts from discussion forums or even corporate information.

RSS was originally developed by Netscape.

I think I figured it out...(am I the only one using the RSS feeds?)

Anyway, with Thunderbird, all threads come in looking like emails, but the body of the email is actually the FSM forum. When a new thread is posted, the "thread/email" becomes "unread" again. So you can see new activity, kinda like in the old forum.

The only wierd thing is, sometimes I get duplicate threads...haven't figured out if there is a pattern of behavior with that, yet...

Holy crappola! If I can get FSM on my blackberry...the possibilities! No more daydreaming during those boring, mindless "corporate america" meetings. FSM in my pocket, and even my boss will think I'm working. lol

I'll probably get fired, but it will be cool.Big Smile [:D]

Oh.  I honestly never used it.  I knew they worked because people in the office had tested it out, but I wasn't sure how they worked.

Once we get CS 2.0, there are a couple of features we may take a look into using.  There is currently a NNTP Server option available for the forum.  There is also another service they're working on which lets you participate via email.  You can subscribe to a forum, receive replies in your inbox and then reply and it'll get posted to the thread.  It even supports attachments.  One of the developers was posting to their forums via his Blackberry while on a business trip.  Some really cool stuff.

Update - The RSS feeds only feed new topics...they don't feed any replies. So, they aren't very useful. Unless I'm missing something?...

You do have a good point. I'm messing around with the Thunderbird RSS reader and I'm trying make my own custom filters...not even sure if that's possible.

Oh, BTW. Thanks for that deletion. (I just realized the search function defaults to search only in the topic you are in, hence my temporary loss of sanity.)

Wouldn't you rather grab the RSS feeds for each forum you're interested in vs. the entire forum?  Although I'm sure there are some who do want the entire forum.  Smile [:)]

I can look into it, but I'm not going to promise anything.
