The old Aurora Allosuarus kit!  Cool!  Mine wound up fighting GI Joes in all kinds of backyard adventures.

Yes, one of the first model kits I owned as a child. I got it for my birthday, less than 10 more than 7. I figure that because the kid that gave it to me went to elementary school with me but was sent off to boarding school before we went to the school that held 4th & 5th grade. I ran across the reissue the other day at an antique toy mall my wife like to go to. It was issued in 1971 when I would have turned 7.

I snapped it together rather quickly like I would as a child but painted it by hand with some cheap acrylic paint I bought at Michael's. I used the same color (Camp ground green) as the plastic and bought a lighter green to do the belly and spinal ridges. As a kid, I didn't paint the body, but I used Testors gloss yellow (the type you got in the multi paint set) to paint the eyes, belly and spine.

I am trying to replicate what this kit might have looked like after I built it 40 some odd years ago, but with some differences I would have done if I had the proper supplies and materials.

Boy, now there is some memories... I think between my friend Andy and I, we had the whole series with the interlocking stands...

I had most of the Prehistoric Series, except for the T-rex, which I remember as a lot more expensive (at that time) than the rest of the kits.  They were a lot of fun, even if they weren't the most accurate representations of dinosaurs.  The only other kits I had were the Life-Like kits, which were really pretty bad.  But I loved dinosaurs, so I didn't care, it was just cool to get 'em and slap 'em together with good ol' Duco Household Cement.

The Aurora Wooly Mammoth and Cave Bear were pretty good, as I recall.  I think the Cave Bear was a recycled kit from an earlier Aurora nature series.

Between my brother and me, we had a good number of them. My first two were the Allosaurus and Saber Toothed Tiger. I had the Giant Bird, Cave Bear, Pteradon, the three cave people, and I remember my brother had the ankylosaurus, sail back, and one of the horned dinosaurs, but I don't recall which.

The bases were something else, you had to buy more kits to get them to fit together. What a marketing ploy.

Yup... And that ploy worked!!!
