I use the image tag, too, but as I said, since the forum upgrade, from the point of the first image tag in my body of text, all subsequent text is bold-faced, which didn't use to happen.
I like using the image tag, too, because I want the image embedded in my posts. I'm not as much a fan of having the images open in another tab or navigate me to the storage location. But I also learned that after a recent upgrade at Photobucket, the image tag didn't get handled the same way anymore by the ancient software used at Hyperscale. There, we need to use the direct tags, for best results, or rather, to keep the veteran members there from howling about how the actual start and end tags display next to the image.
