Tutorial on how to post pictures
Posted by 1943Mike on Thursday, January 28, 2016 10:25 PM

The basics for posting pictures on FineScale is this:

1. Have a jpg image (or images) on your computer that you want to post on FineScale. I know this sound obvious but I'm starting from scratch here.

3. Upload the image(s) to an image hosting site. All they are are companies with servers that will store your images for you after you've used the Internet to send the pictures to them. The procedure for uploading the picture(s) to one of those sites can be found on that site. Here are a bunch of free image hosting sites:

I use Photobucket and am reasonably satisfied with their site.

DO NOT pay for the service. The basic drawback to the free use of these sites is the $#&%* advertising they have on their web site. Just turn off your computer speakers if they become too annoying.

4. Once you have images uploaded to the sight you've chosen to host them, you can then copy the URL (internet address) of that picture or pictures. Look on the site you've chosen to find how to do this. I'll give you an example of copying the URL of an image using Photobucket which is the site I use.

A) In Photobucket click on the thumbnail (they are sometimes large thumbnails) of the image you want to post to FineScale.

B) Having clicked on that picture a larger version opens up with four boxes to the right of your image (1: Email & IM, 2: Direct, 3: HTML, and 4: IMG) Choose "IMG"

Just click in the box called "IMG" and the URL will automatically be copied to your clipboard. You now have the URL ready to paste into your post on FineScale - however, I'd be on the safe side and first save what I have on my clipboard to Wordpad (or Notepad) just in case I lost it while I was doing something else before pasting it to FineScale.

5. OK, we now have the URL on the clipboard. (URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator which is a fancy way of saying internet address. It's where any computer you're asking to do something with your image is going to find it.)

On FineScale, in your post (old or new - it doesn't matter - if it's old, use Reply - NOT quick reply), write your text that is to precede the image(s), go down one line (hit enter), and paste the URL you have copied to your clipboard into the FineScale window.

The next and last step is to click on the "Submit Your Discussion Topic" button on the bottom. Once you've clicked that button, and assuming you've done all the other steps correctly, your image will appear in your post.

I hope this will give you enough information to play with the process in the "Testing Forums" on Finescale. That way if you've missed a step or made a mistake it doesn't matter - that's what the forum is for.
