OK Greg,

Based on your hypothesis, here's a link to my home page:

https://www.nytimes.com/

Here's the BlueJacket website:

http://www.bluejacketinc.com/

Here's the Washington Post:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/

Here's Spruebrothers:

https://store.spruebrothers.com/

Here's a page from Britmodeler.com:

https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235060903-148-hasegawa-ju-87g-with-extras/

And, finally, back to an old thread from FineScale:

http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/t/181015.aspx

So, it would seem, that Greg's hypothesis can be tested. Still not sure which sites are "insecure" nor sure how to find that out.

Obviously FineScale does not want to play nice.

Testing:

http://www.ucla.edu/

https://www.squadron.com/

http://www.mit.edu/

https://www.msn.com/en-us

http://cs.finescale.com/f/

So much for that theory. I wondered if the site code would disallow hot-linking to insecure sites (which this one is). No Joy.

I just 6:45 pm (PST) posted a reply to Kirill4 on the Ships forum. For some strange reason when I inserted a link to a museum in Saint Petersburg Russia, the link is hot.

I just don't get it.

And here I wanted to blame Firefox. Stick out tongue

I am using Safari, so, I guess we can rule out browsers.

PS... if you pasted the hobby link into your message, it worked.

Sure did. And sure did.

I commented above but you missed it, I wonder if it might have something to do with linking back to the finescale domain? Wild guess. As I said, I've done it many times in the past.

Yeah, sorry, reading has not been my best suit these days. Just ask my coworkers. Lol.

Perhaps so about the domain.

Well?

Edit: never considered a bad link. This time I just linked back to this thread.

I wonder if it might be browser specific? I never considered that before. I'm using Firefox v70.something, 64bit. How about you, Bakster?

Edit, again....

Yeah maybe it’s your browser. Sigh. Always something with this forum.

Now that's just goofy. I wonder if it might have something to do with linking back to the finescale domain? I know I've done it in the past many times, though.

That didn't work for me. And here I was all excited, Steve.

Guys--I had the same problem for months until someone told me to not use the link icon, but to go through the insert menu and past it in that way. My links work going through the menu.

I run into that as well. This forum is in desperate need of updating. It was announced they were doing updates several months back but as of yet I have seen none happen. It's disappointing because they even took suggestions.

Greg and Greg,

Thanks to both of you for confirming what I'd suspected ... that I've not completely lost my marbles! (just a few Big Smile).

I really wanted this:

BBCode format looks like this ( change urX to url )

[urX=http://cs.finescale.com]Link to FSM[/urX]

to work for me but, again, no luck.

I was trying to help someone on the ship forum a short time ago who exclaimed his lack of knowledge about computers so I'm doubtful he will have the knowledge to copy and paste the link. C'est la vie.

My experience is same a gregbale's. Sometimes hot linking works here and sometimes it doesn't.

So let's try today:

http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/feedback_help_and_testing/f/43/t/173158.aspx

Edit:

It did not work that time. It shows up as a nice, underlined hotlink in the create message GUI, but it seems to go away after posting it.

I press the little chain button and paste the link into the URL field.

I've had the same problem intermittently...when it's not working, it doesn't seem to matter whether it's via PC or phone.

The only thing I have figured out is that the URL linking won't work -- for me, at least -- if there's an emoji in the post.

No idea why.

No URL hot link?
Posted by 1943Mike on Saturday, November 9, 2019 11:59 AM

I'm having trouble getting the URL's I insert in the "Post Body" window to turn "hot". I use the symbol above (diagonal link) to insert the address but it doesn't become a hot link.

Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?

See this link to an old thread of mine in this forum:

http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/feedback_help_and_testing/f/43/t/173158.aspx

Still does not become a hot link. Why?

OK, I've just dredged up an old (September 2018) discussion regarding this topic. Here goes a try using the BBCode hyperlink format:

[urX=http://cs.finescale.com]http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/feedback_help_and_testing/f/43/t/173158.aspx[/urX]

Still no joy.

Still no luck.

At 10:36 am - one last try:

I give up Sad.
