Howdo From New Hampshire
Posted by Django on Monday, September 26, 2016 6:30 PM

Hello everyone. My first time here, and I hope it will not be the last. My story?  Probably like a lot of folks. I spent hours in my basement as a boy assembling plastic models.

What a joy to watch bits of colored polymers slowly (and sometimes painfully) become, miracle of miracles, a sleek, red Fokker Dr1. I made rotary motor sounds as I pitched and rolled it in my hands, seeing in my minds eye Manfred VonRichtofen, silk scarf streaming behind as he put a silver Nieuport 17 in his sights, his machine gun chattering in the chill dawn sky over Flanders.

Yeah. I'm a bit verbose and somewhat dramatic. But I love this hobby so when I put down my glue and Testors paint bottle some 56 years ago, I put down a part of myself.

And now. After retiring. I am at last able to have the time to devote to this wonderful artistic movement, and believe me, a modeler is an artist.

I will have many questions. And my first. I remember that Lindbergh was the company that, at the time was the best WW1 airplane designer. Does Lindbergh still exist? I have put together in the last couple months a Revell (F4U-A), Hesagawa (Focke Wulf F!190) and I just got an AirFix (B-25) J. Do you have a favorite company?

Welcome to the Forums!

I remember Aurora putting out a decent nice line of WWI airplanes in 1/48.  Don't recall much about Lindbergh.  Their molds may still be around somewhere.

These days I tend toward Airfix and Hasegawa for planes, in 1/72.  Haven't built any WWI aircraft in years, although I have a few in the pipeline.

Welcome to the Forums!  Glad to have you aboard!

You hit the nail right on the head. Lots of members got here the same way. I've been building for 69 of my 75 years and build whatever I see that I like (and the wallet says OK Wink). If you have any questions/problems, feel free to ask for help. That's what we're here for. Looking forward to seeing pics of your builds. Sooooooooo, sit back and take a few sips of your favorite brew Coffee Beer Drinks Toast and enjoy the hobby.

Come to think of it, it was Aurora. Wow. I had forgotten that company. I think they also made a best-known series of knights in armor. Whoa. That's a blast from the past!!

Thank you Jim. Things (and tools for building models) have changed somewhat over the years. I will have plenty of questions.

Welcome aboard!  I must admit that my nostalgic heart goes after the old Monogram/Revell kits.  But as your question in regards to a favorite kit companies are, Tamiya, Trumpeter, and Zoukei Mura to name just a few.  To be honest, any kit that catches my eye.

I currently have a thread going on a Tamiya 1/48 Corsair and after my move I have a Trumpeter Nigh Attack Harrier II Wating to be assembled after my domicile move.
