New to FSM. Getting back into model building after 20 yrs.
Posted by capoeta on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 5:04 PM

After 20yrs I am coming back to model building. My son who is now 12 yrs old is interested in building WW2 model warships and so I have started building models again to sharpen my skills and learn new tricks.

I've been browsing the forum for some weeks now and I am amazed at the work that I see.   It is amazing how different model building in today's age.  Years ago, unless we visited with other folks or looked at magazined we were isolated in our own model building worlds.  Thanks to the internet I can browse at hundreds of builds and get inspired by what I see being built by others.

My first stab at coming back to model building is building a P-61 black widow and right off the back I found myself having to make a decision. Build models to precise exactness, or concentrate more on having fun. So, I am buying simple, cheap models for my son and I to build together for fun and expensive/difficult ones for me.

My son wants me to find him a CV-6 model in 1/350 scale. I think we're going to be practicing for some time before I get him one of those. If I can find one.

I will load pics as soon as I find the FAQ  instructions on how to do it.. In the mean time. Thank you in advance for the help that I will certainly be asking for in the future and thanks for the inspiration of your builds.

Welcome Sign back!  Many of us have had 20+ years break including myself.  It is a good thing that your son is interested too.  My boys were not that interested but they are only 9 and 11 years old.  Maybe one day... not going to push them into the hobby.
