Howdy from Cali

Hey all,

My name is Michael and I am a part-time modeler, full-time grad student of history in Southern California. I began modeling in high school (I'm 33), at first producing some of the biggest atrocities ever committed in styrene form. For the last ten years I have taken the hobby more seriously, and I now make models that I am not ashamed of. I decided that I would like to participate in the larger modeling community, so I have joined the forum and signed up for the Falklands War GB, where I will be building an RAF Sea Harrier FRS.1. Some of my favorite models from my past include:

1/48 Tamiya A6M2 Zero

1/48 Academy MiG-21 MF

1/48 Revell Corsair F4U-4

1/35 Academy M18 Hellcat

I hope to one day be insane enough to build a Manila Galleon ship because I am writing my dissertation on 18th-century Spanish Pacific commerce.

I look forward to sharing builds with the group and picking up some tips on how to be a better modeler along the way.

Cheers,

Michael

Welcome Sign Michael, this is a great place with friendly folks and you can pick up lots of good info.  BTW, I just completed the Tamiya 1/48 A6M2 model 21 Zero, great kit.

Science is the pursiut of knowledge, faith is the pursuit of wisdom.  Peace be with you.

On the Tarmac: 1/48 Revell P-38

In the Hanger: A bunch of kits

I had a traumatic HD crash a few month ago so I lost most of my pictures, and I give away my models as I complete them because I lack display space in my current living arrangement, but I do have 2 pictures from my cell phone of the corsair I built. Any comments or suggestions are more than welcome.

My first suggestion... buy a Mac & back up everything!!! Wink

Looks like a nice Corsair from those pics, looking forward to seeing you in the Falklands GB.

Hello Michael

Welcome aboard! Shame about losing your pics, but that just means you have to build more and take more photos....  not a bad circumstance at all really.

Hope to see more of your work......

Bill

Enjoy the ride!

Welcome Sign Welcome aboard Michael! It's always great to see another modeler from So Cal on here! What area are you located in? We have a few model clubs on the Orange County area that are great to partake in if you care to visit. I know my participation with them (along with this site) has improved my skills quite a bit! Your Corsiar looks pretty good. Especially for a mold that is older than you are.Wink It sounds like you do much of the gamut of military modeling, Armor and Aircraft, and some ships as well?

Now see that would be very very cool! Who better? Welcome to the forum and that is indeed a fine Vought.

Thanks, stikpusher. I am in Huntington Beach, but it is difficult for me to get away on nights or weekends to partake in clubs because I am usually doing research then. Hence, an online community is perfect for me. And yes, I like all sorts of military modeling, though I have yet to take on a ship. Soon, I hope.

Well Moober, you and I are in the same town! Small world! If your schedule does relax a bit in the evenings, IPMS (every sort of model under the sun and moon) meets in LaHabra on the 3rd Friday evening of every month, and AMPS (an armor themed club), meets in Garden Grove on the 2nd Saturday afternoon/evening of every month. I am well familiar with difficulty in making meetings as I work evenings and my days off rotate every three months.Wink I would advise trying a ship. I am working on my first new tool 1/350 ship as an adult currentlyand am loving it! There is something about ship modeling...Hmm
