Belated hello from Hawaii
Posted by Real G on Thursday, May 19, 2011 10:19 PM

Hi all!  I haven't done a lot of Internet chit-chat previously, so I completely forgot to introduce myself.  Where I live we have an expression "running on Hawaiian time", which refers to getting things done behind schedule.  Well, my intro is running on Hawaiian time, so I apolgize.  Heck, my modeling as well as computer savvy are also on Hawaiian time!  I finally got a photo sharing account just last week, so now I can pollute the Internet with my silly piccies.  (Of my models, not of me!)

I have built, or tried to build, almost every type of model since mom let me build my first kit unsupervised back in 1970.  I mostly do aircraft, armor, the occasional submarine, and sci-fi.  (Based on my avatar, it's not too hard to guess what my favorite sci-fi subject is.!)  I like off-beat and wacky subjects, so naturally I am a fan of X-planes, Luftwaffe 1946, and other paper projects.

I can't do a gloss paint job to save my life, so cars are not my favorite.  I am fascinated by Formula-1 though, so I want to try one when I can screw down the courage.  I already have chosen one:  the Tyrrell P34 six wheeler!  Again, I like wacky subjects, so it is a perfect fit!

Anyway, I look foward to jumping into the forum pool, and promise to not relieve myself while in it!  Surprise

PS  For those who watch the rebooted "Hawaii 5-O", I can say with fair certainty that no one here speaks "the bird."  It's pidgin, Hollywood dudes!  (See pilot episode.)

Welcome aboard from the other side of the globe. We like to see lots of piccies here, and while you may get advice and tips, you will not get slated. But i guess you have already seen that. I am a big fan of Luft 46 and paper panzer myself, well anything German really but those especially. so looking forward to seeing some of those.

Hello all, thanks for the welcome!

Here are a few of my previous builds:

Emhar Mk V-1

Emhar's 1/35 Mark V "Hermaphrodite", built as a standard Male.

Model Cellar MvR-1

Model Cellar's 90mm resin Manfred von Richtofen, a.k.a. the Red Baron.  (My first large scale figure!)

Pit Road Jim-1

Pit Road's 1/20 resin Jim Diving Suit.

Hase YF-21-2

And finally, Hasegawa's 1/72 YF-21, from "Macross Plus."

Sorry about not posting any airplane stuff.  My Luft '46 aircraft are quite old, and the vac canopies are starting to yellow.  I'll work on some new ones and post photos then.

Bsyamato,

We meet again, in a different section of the forum!  Smile

Yes, I like F-1 cars from the 1970s.  I never built one, but I really like the looks of those machines.  I am not a fan of the latest cars that have all those little finlets and doo-dads sticking out all over the place.  (Okay, I guess you're right about the similarities to Gundam)  Real F-1 was when they used big eight to twelve cylinder engines with carburetors, and no computers!

Now to wait for an F-1 group build.....

Aloha Real G!

Greetings from the East coast of Canada eh!

Your work looks excellent, my favorite is the WWII British tank. The weathering & wear looks perfect.

Like the great Jeff Spicolli said 'All I need are tasty waves & a cool buzz & i'm just fine'

Okay, one more piccie before I dive into the regular forums:

LQ-Triebflugel-2

This is Huma's 1/72 Triebflugel, built around 1990.  Both the subject and model represented my entry into the Luftwaffe 1946 genre.  I had high hopes that AMT would follow their 1/48 Ta-183 with one of these, but alas, it was not to be.  Maybe Zoukei Mura will do one in 1/32 scale?  Personally, I think it is somewhat surprising that no one has made a modern kit of this bizarre tailsitter.

Hercmech,

I'll be glad to share what I have learned.  I like to try one new thing for every build I do, so I learn something from each build.  For example, the Triebflugel was given its RLM-75(ish) inkspots using an index card mask with irregular holes burned in using incense sticks.  I stuck some small masking tape loops in the back of the mask to hold it a little bit off the surface of the model.  It is easy to do and does a pretty good job of keeping overspray neat on 1/72 models.

My painting skills really stink in the gloss and weathering departments, so I will be paying particular attention to posts with informaiton containing those areas.
