New German
Posted by stefwed on Tuesday, June 7, 2011 3:17 PM

Hello,

ok, introducing means telling something:

I am 46 years old, male, married, 2 kids, and live in Germany near Cologne (city is named Kerpen), working as an engineer in the field of engine development.

I build mainly 1:72 military aircraft. I chose the Hustler as Avatar because I like the look of it and because I managed to finish this model after thinking for years about the metallic finish. "Finish something", the title of one of FSMs editorials years ago, has become my main rule, because that is what I like most: Looking at something which is finished. Even when it is not perfect or maybe even "good".  Therefore, I build mostly out of the box.

In the moment, I am working on the 1:72 AC-130 ESCI kit, and have just two Tamiya 1:12 F1 cars and one 1:43 Fiat 131 Rally car in stock. And some sets of figures, which I bought due to interest in the roman time and American Civil War ( I started a diorama of "Burnsides Bridge" also years ago, but I do not see me finishing this = exception to the rule).

Interests beside modeling: Collecting 1:43 die-cast race cars up to the seventies, 1:18 die-cast Mustangs, reading about historic motorsports (cars, engines, events). That is why I bought two old 1:32 Matchbox kits of a Mercedes SSK and an Aston Martin at eBay recently and why I think about switching more to classic race cars, even though it might raise the number of models in stock.

And I like holiday trips to the US with my family, where they buy cheap shoes, and I get the opportunity to visit Gettysburg, the Smithonian Air and Space Museum, the Pensacola Naval Air Museum...

Best Regards to everyone, looking forward to interesting discussions.

stefwed,

Good to have you aboard, your English is better than most here!

Aside from threads getting side tracked & general chaos at times you will find the FSM forums a very informative & inspirational place to learn more about the hobby of model building.

You have the right idea regarding getting models finished knowing its not about perfection. I need to heed this advice myself.

“Enter freely and of your own will…” said a strange voice as though not used to human speech. (We’re all a little mad here.)

A poorly advertized feature of the Forum: You CAN correct your posts if you feel you must. (We all screw-up a little from time to time.) On the top portion of the post, click on the right-most [negative image] lozenge, third option: Edit. You can fix or add information and even photos.

Occasional factual, grammatical, or spelling variations are inherent to this thesis and should not be considered as defects, as they enhance the individuality and character of this document.

Welcome to the forums. Some great folks on here, and a little madness too. If you like going to museums on your visits to the US, make an effort to get out to the Air Force muesum in Dayton OH. Well worth the effort, cool stuff that you can't see anywhere else. And you get to walk through some Air Force One Aircraft.
