Newbie Introduction
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, January 25, 2004 8:51 AM
Hello All,

I am a new member of the forum and am really enjoying the experience. I have been modeling ships for over thirty-five years with occasional forays into planes and fire equipment.

I scratchbuild in basswood but will do a kit if the subject appeals to me and have built a few plastic and resin models. I do not specialize in any type or era but I favor work boats such as fishing vessels and tugs. I have done several models as subjects for a marine artist friend of mine.

Welcome to FSM Al!!

In all those ships you built you would happen to have built the 1/200 Scale Revell USS Andrew Jackson?? I just purchased one on Ebay and it didn't come with Instructions. Now hopefully this wont be a problem since i did serve on her and was qualified in Submarines on her. If you have a copy of the instructions and have scanning capabilities and then could email them to me that would be great.

Anyhow thanks in advance and again welcome to the forums.

Thank you all for the warm reception. Sorry Rich, never did the Andrew Jackson. Good luck in your search for plans.

Welcome to the forums Al, I have never built any ships at this time (though I would like to in the future), but I have always had a fascination with the coast guard ships....have you done any of those? Either way, can't wait to see some pics of your work!!!

Hi Dan,

Yes, I have built a few BlueJacket kits, New Bedford Whaleboat. Friendship Sloop, J-Boat Endeavour, CSS Virginia (Merrimack) and the Fletcher Class destroyer. Additionally, I use quite a few of their fittings.

Hello,
Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I did a CG power lifeboat and I did the lighthouse tender Marigold.
I am still trying to figure out how to post a photograph in this forum.

Thanks Gip, I'll take a look. I understand that you can cut and paste a photo. Now I will have my granddaughter show me how to do it so that I understand that.

Thanks again,
Al
