Hello to all
Posted by Boatshop on Sunday, January 25, 2004 11:04 AM
My name is Jim & I'm getting back into modeling after being away for 40 + years. I am finding that the hobby is a great stress reliever. I'm building the model USS Yorktown CV10. When I was in the Navy I was stationed on an aircraft carrier (USS Forrestal) so I like both ships & aircraft. This forum has been great for how-to advice. Thanks.

Hi and welcome, Jim

Good to see you back into modelling; it's a great stress reliever!
My brother Victor was an ET on the Kitty Hawk and is now serving
stateside in Norfolk. He took me on a tour there of the carriers on
Open House Day, and I couldn't believe the size of those ships...

Regards, Dan

Hello Dan. Those ships are realy large, aren't they? When we had the air group on board, the number of people was around 5000.

Welcome to the forums Boatshop!!! While I was never on a carrier (being USMC), I was on the LHA-5 USS Peleliu. I hope to model her one day. BTW, here's the site if anyone interested.

Welcome to the forum Jim. I always wanted to build the Yortown ever since I got to spend a weekend on her back i the boy scout days. Spent 3 days walking around and were still finding new places right before we left.
