Howdy and a question
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, January 27, 2004 9:54 AM
Hello all,

I admit I haven't built a model in twenty years. What has sparked my interest again is my son is turning eight in March. We have been hard at work building a pine-wood derby car for the Cub Scouts and he has loved the spray painting of the car and applying the decals. When we went to the hobby store to get the supplies he cast his eyes on a Revell A-10 that he will probably get for his birthday. I'm fairly certain if he gets into builiding models, he will suck me back in and I will be hanging B-17s from hooks in the ceiling just like I did when I was a kid.

Now for the question.

I seem to recall that twenty to thirty years ago Revell put out a kids pamphlet/newsletter and one of the features was a fictional story about a modelling club and their arch-rivals the "Messy Modellers". Does this sound familiar to anyone? If so do you have any idea what the magazine (or whatever it was) was called? I don't know why I need to know, I just do. Big Smile [:D]

Welcome to the forum Snook. There's nothing wrong with building again and hanging B-17's from your ceiling!! It would be good if you and your son can share the hobby and have a common interest in it. Go ahead and get a kit for yourself when you get his and then you won't have an excuse to not build one! Big Smile [:D]

As for that publication, I don't remember seeing it when I was a kid so I can't help you there. There were very few actual hobby shops around when I was growing up though, most of mine I was getting at K-Mart back then.

Again, welcome. Looking forward to seeing you around the forum.

Eric

Welcome to FSM Great Snook. I also don't remember that publication but I'm sure if your son starts building, the modelling bug will quickly set fire in you again too.

Enjoy the forums !!!!

Great Snook,
Welcome to the forum family! Can't wait for you and your son to get involved in plastic and glue. My son (age 10) and I have started modeling together---what an experience.
Don't have a clue on the pamphlet you speak of--Sorry. Hope you enjoy your time here.

Hi and welcome Great Snook!

The only phamplets I remember were the Shep Paine dioramas in my Monogram tank and aircraft kits. I couldn't match his expertise so out they went loaded with firecrackers for an early Fourth of July. ~ : )

Welcome to the FSM forums. I also have not heard of the pamphlet/newsletter. Have you tried to contact Revelle? They might be able to help you answer your question. Good luck in your search and I hope you enjoy the forums.

Well Believe it or not I do remember the magazine you are talking about,, however I dont remember the name of it. I got it as a kid when I started building models at the age of 8. I think I may have one at home but I am not holding much hope but if I do I will email you with the name of it.

In anycase welcome to the forum

Welcome to the Forum.

Sorry, can't help with the Revell stuff, only remember the Tamiya ones and was surprised when I picked up 3 Kits recently and they still had the Tamiya comics in them.
