Welcome to the world of German armour, be prepared to have your head battered. That Tamiya kit is a nice one, its one of 5 Tiger I's i have in my stash. Tamiya armour kits are very nice, and go together very well. They are not as detailed as Dragon kits, but then they don't come with the same price tag and they don't send you to the funny farm, so stick to tamiya for now.

As far as Tiger's go, changes were made at the factories during its production run, sometimes on a monthly bases. This changes by themselves were often rather small, and did not warrant a new designation, or Ausfuehrung as the Germans termed it. We now use the terms Initial, Early, Middle and late, but the Germans did not use these. So, all Tiger I's were Ausf E.

As for paint, the Germans made a few changes during the war. When the Tiger first entered service, they were still useing all over Pz Grey. They in Feb 43 they switched to a 3 colour scheme. The yellow was applied at the factory. The troops in the field were supplied the other 2 colours in a paiste form. This could be thinned with watre, petrol, oil etc. Depending on what you use and how much you thinned it, would determine the shade you ended up with. And there was no set rule for a pattern. It was often upto local commanders. Somtimes they may even have just used one of the two colours. So the variety is endless.

You sure you still wnat to build Tigers.

Yeah I may have to go for that Bish, it looks a good kit! I would like to build loads of Tigers! Looking at the book I got there are loads and they all look different, I guess the crews doing field modifications, but also finding out they were painted different from each other and had different style of markings! My head is swimming!

Must do T34 now, from what I am reading the T34 was just daily bread for the Tiger!

I need to feed the Tigers somehow I guess LOL!

By the way, what is the thinking about "Dragon Tiger Kits"? My mate said they are the best you can get.

Not got that one yuet, thinkm it is on my to buy list. But two things i would recomend. Haynes, the guys that do car manuels, recently brought out one on the Tiger, largely based on the Bovvy Tiger I.

Second, seeing as you are on the right track with amiya kits, they do several Tiger I kits, including an Initial which has the markings for the Bovvy tank. Might want to try and get your hands on it while you still can.

I am just reading a book at the moment called "Tigers in Combat" By Wolfgang Schnieder. An excellent book but I am not all that well versed in Tiger History yet, but I am keen to be. I think they are brilliant!

Yes, go down the Right hand side and there are 3 to 4 arches where shells have hit the bottom of the Hull and ricocheted down. I think one went through, but has been repaired (?) It really is interesting!

On thinking about it, no i haven't. It seems both times i have been, i was drawn to the left side for some reason. I will make a note of it, i hope to get back there again soon.

I'm not sure on the history of this Tiger II, as in when and where it was captured. Doesn't seem to be as well known as their Tiger I.

Glad you liked them Bish. Have you been down the Right hand side of that King Tiger? There are some pretty nasty shell marks toward the Rear

Tiger AusfE

It is like stumbling into an film of "The hills have eyes" everyone so friendly at first then they turn into cannibals and mutants and.........................Or is that Brixton?

Opps, careful, the UK PC brigade will have you for that.

To post pics you need to select the little film strip symbol at the top of the post message box. You then put the link in there.

Hi Bish,

The PZKPFW IV H was done out in the Red/Brown dark Yellow scheme. It did look very impressive and was very impressive looking. I will see if I can dig out some photos of it. They actually pulled it out of a Marsh in Poland. It was restored to full running order in England with money from the Jordanian Armoured museum It was going to be put in their museum. I think it went on to make an appearence at the War and Peace Show.

I was in Israel years ago and went to Kinneret (lake Galilee.....Where I was almost arrsted near Capernaum for swimming naked in the Lake) On the Northern side of the Lake I came across a wreck of a tank (I now know it as a PZKPFW AUSF J) I had a good look around the wreckage and found out, due to the plaque on it that it was destroyed by Israeli A4 Skyhawks. I would not have liked to be in that when the missile hit!

Damn, didn't know they had a Pz IV. What colour scheme is it in. The Jordanians did have some Pz IV's during the 6 day war, some were captured by the Israelis. I would imagine it would be in Jordanian markings.

Thanks guys!

Hi Bish, No I did not get to see the Tiger running. I have cursed the Gods accordingly. However this year I did get to see the Tortoise! What a beast that was. I was also lucky to get to see the restored Panzer IV H that is going to the Jordanian Armoured museum.

Hercmech, I look forward to exchanging a few words of Banter and exploiting you all for your modelling knowledge!

Welcome aboard. You will find this a great bunch, even if we do have the odd tantrum and a fair amount of lunacy. But you will find a lot of help and advice.

I was last at Bovvy a couple of years ago. I love that place. And they have done a great job on the Tiger I. Did you see it running when you were there.

New to the site, have just subscribed to what is a damn fine magazine too! I hope to pick up hints and tips from you al in regards to modelling!

My Name is Richard, I am 43 from London. I have recently become interested in tanks after going with a friend to tankfest at Bovington in Dorset England. I was impressed with the Tiger in the hall and wish to do one one day!

I have just got my first Model Tank, A russian t34/76. It was cheap and I thought that as it was my first attempt it may aswell be a cheapy model! For some reason I am quite drawn to the whitewash version!

Regards

Richard
