I picked up the new kit. The hobby shop is next door to Michaels, and I had a 40% off coupon, so of course I had to get something else. I picked up a Revell 1:48 P-51 B/C for $9

I might start soon.

I notice that the instructions tell you to assemble the cockpit, then glue the plane halves around the cockpit. Is this the only way to do it? How do you sand the body lines smooth without screwing up the cockpit, just tape it off?

Well, I got home and opened the box. There was a big slice in the plastic, and the tops of both wings were gouged pretty bad. Someone dragged a box cutter or something across it. It had to have been at the factory because the box was factory-sealed. It was not repairable as sanding them out would have ruined a lot of the details.

My buddy works at the hobby shop. I called him last night and he ordered a new one that will be here tomorrow. I just dropped this one off for return, so no worries about a replacement.

I'm not sure when I will start it, but I imagine soon as Im pretty pumped. I forgot how much detail these big planes have.

Was there ever an Intruder with a bare metal finish? My whole reason for wanting to build a plane was to use Alclad, then I go and buy a grey/white plane, Huh?

What are some commong colors used that I should buy. I prefer Tamiya acrylics for brush painting. I dont have any military greens, blues or greys.

I will start a WIP thread when I get going, and hopefully you guys can help me a long with a build. I am not familiar with planes and will have questions about assembly, detail procedures, etc.

thanks for the warm welcome.

Welcome to the forum!

I can feel for you, moving from one modeling category to another.  For me, it went in the other direction.  The first time I built a car, after getting back into modeling, and building WWII aircraft, I really wanted to weather the heck out of that 1/24 Porsche slant-nose!  I did wind up stripping the chrome from the engine parts and repainting them matte aluminum, for scale purposes, and I added a little bit of rust to the exhaust.  It was hard not to go any further Wink

Welcome and good luck with your A6! I remember doing a particularly hideous blue paint scheme on an A7 once so I know where you're coming from!

i used to build models as a kid, but never really finished many. if i did they had glue fingerprints or the colors of the rainbow smeared all over them cause i like to eat skittles while i built models. 4 years ago i got into automotive modeling pretty seriously. i dont have much time to build, but i am learning as i go. i do 1/24 and 1/12 detailed builds.

one particular model i remember from back in the day was the A-6E Intruder. i glued everything together and painted ut blue with Testors enamel and a giant brush. it was pretty cool looking for a blue plane.

i have always had a thing fir thismplane so i picked one up today, tha same kit. its the Revell 1/48 kit.

i will have some questions as this will ge my first real plane build. what is a good site to look for upgrade parts? im a sucker detail on my cars and i have a feeling this wont be any different
